Cowgirl Up #47

Welcome to Week 47
of
The Cowgirl Up! Link Party!
1 Party, 5 Blogs  Our guest host this week is Bliss
from Bliss Ranch
I'm Bliss, and needless to say I'm quite honored to be guest posting for Anita and the Cowgirl Up link party gals.  They all have a style that I could get comfortable in... sipping coffee, a glass of wine, or just cracking open an ice cold beer.  You can find me sipping and blogging at Bliss Ranch. Our ranch sits on 25 acres with a lake at one end, woods and field on the other and a house in the middle. It's a little bit country.....

Our Christmas- 48 Hours of Bliss

Gifts are put away, laundry is caught up, and my house is relatively clean. So, I finally had a chance to pull all of our Christmas photos off my camera! Here is a look at our Christmas celebrations.

Real Parties: PINK & GOLD {Baby Shower}

My 'baby' sister Becka is having a baby! So to celebrate, we hosted a beautiful girly PINK&GOLD shower.
The party theme really started with this invitation. Like me, Becka loves Chevron :) I found this beautiful invite at "Print Your Heart Out" on Etsy. Laura, the shop owner, was wonderful to work with! She helped me customize the invite and even designed party circles, a banner, and mini flags to coordinate with the invite. I loved how easy it was to print the paper-goods from home.

Invite found at Print Your Heart Out
With PINK&GOLD on my mind, I scoured the web for inspiration. And when I saw this shower over at "Savinest" via "OntoBaby"- I knew I wanted to create something similar. There is just something so glam and feminine about this color combination.

12 Ways to Ring in the New Year {with Glitter}

What do you do for New Year's Eve? Stay in? Go out? I think the last time we did 'something big' was in 2009. Maisy was just 2 months old and Afton was 3. We had friends over and let the kids go crazy in a bounce house.

The past two years, Jeff and I have just stayed up drinking champagne and watching all the NYE coverage on tv. This year, we are going to a friend's house. The kids are finally big enough to stay up later (probably til 10pm!) so we are venturing out and down the street.

Whether you go out, or stay in, there is a lot to celebrate on December 31st--the ending of one year and the promise of something brand new. And what better way to ring in the new, then with some beautiful inspiration from around the web.  So let's ring in the New Year my favorite way, with glitter!

1. DIY Glitter Candles

2. Glitter Numbers

3. Glitter Headbands

Crafty How-To: Salt Dough Ornaments

For me, Christmas is all about traditions. The tree, the advent calendar, visiting Santa, our church Christmas festival, the Parade of Lights on Main Street ... the list goes on and on. Every year I look forward to the revisiting these memories. Looking back through photos from the last few Christmases, I realized I had overlooked one-- salt dough!

When Afton was in preschool, we first made salt dough ornaments with a sweet friend and her daughter.  We created them to hang on the tree and as gift tags. Now that Maisy is my little 'stay at home companion', I thought it was time to pass over the dough-making-reigns to her.

The recipe for salt dough is easy. My three year old combined it herself with a little help.

Cowgirl Up Linky Party #46

Welcome to Week 46

of

The Cowgirl Up! Link Party!

1 Party, 5 Blogs

Our guest host this week is

Ally from Home By Ally!
Hi! I'm Ally from Home by Ally and I am SO happy to be here guest hosting for The Ivy Cottage and the Cowgirl Up Linky Party! What an honor! These ladies are such a great inspiration and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be here and sharing my passion with y'all!

Home by Ally started roughly a year ago with a serious passion for all things pretty. I have always had a love for home decor and repurposing the old and new, furniture included. My great uncle, grandmother & mother have always been insanely into home decor with my uncle owning his own interior design business in North Carolina.

My little family and I just relocated to eastern Florida on account of my husband serving our country in the military. Since we are military and have lived in many houses that the military provides for you, I've always had to be creative with mostly white walls, cheap finishes and outdated looks. I'm so excited to be here in Florida and I hope to be here for awhile and get Home by Ally involved in the community and the local people!

Here are some of my favorite projects to date here at Home  by Ally!

One of my first favorite projects was this cute little DIY Painted Mason Jar Soap Dispenser. So adorable and so FREE. It was made from a spaghetti sauce jar and I had the lid on hand from another dispenser! You can find the link by clicking  here!

One of my most recent projects was this DIY NO SEW Burlap Table runner. We had just purchased the new farmhouse table and I need a custom runner over 100'' inches long! I couldn't find what I was looking for without paying an arm and a leg so I decided to make my own! You can find the link for my DIY no sew burlap runner by clicking here!

Next up was just from a week or so ago, this cute little lettered picture frame that I keep seeing pop up on Pinterest! It cost me $3 whole dollars to make! You can find the link for making your own lettered picture frame by clicking here!

Look for the Helpers

Hello my friends. How are you all doing???? It seems a lifetime has passed since Friday. And in that time, everything has changed. Lives have been lost. The world feels so scary and dark.

I tried to limit my Internet time, to take a break from it all. But I haven't done a good job of it. I think it's hard not to search for answers. How did this all happen? Why did this happen?

Lots of debate, anger and rage. Who is to blame? What was the cause? How can we keep our children safe in a world that is so dark.

I debated on whether or not to write a post. What can I say that will really help? What do I know that you don't? Do you really need to hear another person talk about how they feel?

I don't know. Honestly, this post won't really answer any questions or put any fears to rest.

But I feel as mothers, we have a bond. We have shared stories about our children here. Shared photos, shared projects, shared our journey. And on this part of the journey, we are all feeling the same thing. Grief, sorrow, fear. How can we continue on in our lives, raising our little ones when it seems so dark. How can we face the world when we feel so out of control?

Crafty How-To: Ruffled Chevron Christmas Stockings

With Christmas just around the corner, now is the perfect time to get those stockings ready. I loved our burlap monogram ones from last year.

But with my new color scheme, I was ready for something different.

"Dessert is Now Served" : Host a Holiday Party

So many reasons to celebrate this season! It's the perfect time to open your home and enjoy the company of friends and family. We recently hosted the dessert portion of our neighborhood progressive Christmas Party. Each year, two homes volunteer to host. One is in charge of dinner and the other does the dessert. Can you guess which one I wanted to do? Dessert of course! You know how I feel about sweets :)
I really wanted to try out some of those beautiful desserts I had seen floating around Pinterest and this was the perfect opportunity. The party was adults only- but these treats could easily be enjoyed by all ages. This is a fairly simple party theme to host- because the food takes center-stage. And since it is 'just desserts' there is no pressure! I think this is not only a fun idea for a Christmas party, but also a great way to ring in the New Year.

I decided to carry over my Christmas decor theme of "Silver & Gold". I made a vintage "JOY" banner for the kitchen by cutting brown paper bags to create the letters and then spray painting them gold. I hung the word "JOY" from jute twine with clothespins over my stove.

Colorful Family Christmas Tree

You can tell a lot about a person from their Christmas tree. Despite my love for beautifully decorated, perfectly color-coordinated trees-- my Christmas tree is a bit different from those.

All the ornaments on my tree, except for the dozen or so silver snowflakes and glittered balls, they all have a personal story attached to them.

Our tree is lit with a rainbow of lights and wrapped in silver ribbon. The topper is an 'old school' glittered gold star.

The ornaments are all personal. A mixture of ornaments from our childhoods, ornaments my students gave me several years ago when I was teacher, and ornaments given to my little girls. There are lots of handmade ones too.

My favorite thing about our tree is how it looks early in the morning. When I get up early to make coffee, before anyone else has even stirred, I switch on the lights and marvel at the glow.

Something about those lights just makes it 'feel like' Christmas.

What does your Christmas tree look like this year?
