My big birthday was last weekend and despite all the craziness of COVID-19, my husband and I were able to get away for celebration. We drove 3.5 hours south to Dripping Springs, TX and stayed the weekend at Camp Lucy. I never went to an 'overnight camp' as a kid. But here I am at 40 years old! Camp Lucy is like the ‘Troop Beverly Hills’ version of roughing it. Designer cabins, signature cocktails, resort amenities, fine dining, and a few ‘outdoorsy’ activities. Read on to find out all about this gorgeous wedding venue and Hill Country Resort.

"READ MORE" of THIS POST, Click HERECrafty Texas Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16874837905884286405noreply@blogger.com0Dripping Springs, TX, USA30.1902067 -98.08667811.8799728638211555 -133.2429281 58.500440536178843 -62.9304281tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4355345472109773017.post-18962434496199344332020-05-10T22:30:00.001-05:002020-05-10T22:30:44.199-05:00Quarantine BikesHow are you all holding up? As quarantine continues we are finding we need 'less' rush and busy, and 'more' time for experiences. One thing that the girls and I have been loving is riding bikes. Both my girls have always had bikes, but between school and after school activities, we weren't using them very much. Now that the world has hit the 'pause button' on our schedule, we have had time to rediscover the joy that comes from simply being outside. Are you finding more time to be outside too? Thinking about getting a bike? Keep reading to find out more about our bikes, where we ride them, and how to get back to basics with your kids.
But like everything else that has changed- birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc- the heart of the event has stayed the same. We all love our teachers (maybe even more now that we have taken on some of their duties!) and we want to show them how much we appreciate them. If you are stumped on how to do this from a distance, you have come to the right place. I have lots of ideas to show your teachers how much you appreciate them, even from 6 feet away.
Happy Earth Day! In our house, it's a tradition to make "Recycled Hats" to wear to the school Earth Day celebration. Since we are doing 'online school' for the rest of the year, I was worried that our tradition might be ending. Without an official 'Earth Day' school celebration, would we will still continue our crafty creations?! Luckily my 14-year-old daughter came to the rescue and insisted that 'the show must go on!'. She designed and crafted this recycled dress and headband for her little sister. They had so much fun with this recycled outfit project!

I wanted to use the supplies we had here at home, instead of making a spontaneous run to the grocery store. This allowed me to think outside of the box. Necessity breeds creativity right?! Have you ever used shaving cream to dye eggs? This was our first time and my girls really enjoyed it. Read on to see how we dyed our eggs with shaving cream and what we learned in the process!
The world-wide coronavirus pandemic is frightening and unsettling. We have all been tasked with something that at first seemed impossible, but has now become our new routine. Stay at home. Stay at home. Stay at home. The coronavirus is a killjoy. But life has found a way to go on. The sun is rising and setting. The days on the calendar are ticking by. And in the midst of a global crisis, there are people and there are birthdays. So how do you celebrate a special occasion when you have to social distance? No hugs, no kisses, no parties. Are the only options for celebrating birthdays a text or phone call?
You all know how I feel about theme parties. I LOVE them! And as much I enjoy planning them, they are also my favorite to attend. If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen photos of my youngest daughter performing ballet. This weekend will be her 5th year to perform in the Colleyville Ballet's production of the Nutcracker. To celebrate the show, one of my 'dance mom' friends hosted a "Nutcracker Christmas Party" for our girls. I loved all the treats, crafts, and decor. She added so many fun details to this Nutcracker party. It was right up Maisy's alley- and mine too!
Are there any other former teachers out there? I know who you are! The ones who love a good bulletin board, the ones who understand how excited kids get for classroom holiday decorations. My friend Regina (also a former teacher) and I thought our big 4th grade kiddos needed some Christmas cheer at school. So we decorated their teacher's doors! Since we had to do 5 doors and there were only 2 of us... we wanted to do something that did not involve wrapping the entire door. I think this Reindeer Door Decor is both simple and fun!

(with or without kids), this post is for you. I am sharing what museums we visited, where we ate, what monuments are a 'must-see', and all the experiences you won't want to miss. National Charity League (or NCL) is a mother-daughter service organization for girls in grades 7-12. It focuses on building mother-daughter relationships through community service. The girls meet as a group once a month. Their meetings are centered around a guest speaker or a community activity. For this meeting, the girls wanted to work a craft. I was so honored that Afton suggested I help with the meeting. (Anyone with a teenage daughter knows this is a big compliment- ha!) So I worked with another mom to come up with a craft that would be meaningful and fun for 8th-grade girls. After talking about all issues and pressure young women face in middle school, we decided that bullet journals would be perfect.
Jeff and I started our tradition of visiting Texas beaches years ago when we were in high school. We were part of that Spring Break crew who lived it up on South Padre Island. As the years passed, we moved up to Port Aransas. And now that we have kids, that's the beach that calls us back. Some people question Texas beaches. After all, Texas is not the first place you think of when it comes to 'beach life'. But those who have been know.... Port A is once of the best kept secrets among Southerners. Want to know what makes Port Aransas so special? Keep reading!
Once a month, our middle school PTA hosts some kind of 'staff appreciation' event. Sometimes it's a full meal. Other times it's just a treat. For October, we decided to do a 'Trail Mix Bar'. I love snacky foods (who doesn't?!!) so this was a fun event to plan. This 'Trail Mix Bar' would be perfect for a birthday party, baby shower or any event where you want to present yummy munchies in a cute way.

To celebrate, she simply wanted a sleepover at home. So I started planning! We decided on a 'glamourous camping theme' also know as 'glamping'. Part of this was due to the adorable tent we bought for camping... but have yet to use! So with our theme in mind and a handful of excited guests, it was party time!
PTA volunteers are organizing school supplies, teacher luncheons, membership drives, meetings with administration, training for new board members, and more! In the interest of 'sharing is caring' -- I thought I would show what we did at our elementary school. Hopefully it will give you a few ideas you can use on your campus.
When I think about volunteering, I want to live the motto "I don't have to volunteer, I get to volunteer!". It's a privilege to have the time and resources to serve others. And one of my favorite groups of people to serve are "teachers".

Teachers! What can I say? Have you been into a school lately?!! Teaching is not a job for the faint of heart! So let's take care of teachers. And the best way to do that ... is with food.
And guess what? My mom was one of the 'crafters'!
The show "Making It" was such a whirlwind adventure for my mom (on her blog she goes by the name Jemma). Who would have thought my very own mom, who grew up on a little farm in Idaho, who is the Grammy to my girls, would end up on a prime-time NBC show?! As my mom says, you never know when something amazing thing is about to happen. And that couldn't be more true!
