New Michaels Store in Frisco

I partnered with Michaels again for a fun crafting event. (You can see event I did last year- just click here.) This one was to kick-off the opening of their new store in Frisco, Texas. Michael's invited a handful of bloggers to their store for a sneak-peek of the new location.

I brought my best lil crafter with me-- she loves all of the 'craft blogging' craziness as much as I do :)

When we arrived at the store, we were greeted with a cute lemonade bar. All the goodies made using items from the store of course. They have a brand new section that is full of chalkboards, burlap, twine, galvanized metal-- things that make crafty people smile.

The event organizers had put together a scavenger hunt- it was a neat way to tour the store. Afton and I raced around looking for  the 8 clues. They led us through jewelry, framing, end caps filled with project ideas etc. The new store layout has wider aisles and the products are down lower, so they are easier to reach. It feels brighter and more modern.

I have to admit, we got a little competitive. Afton and I ended up running to the finish-- and winning! The prize was the coveted new Cricut Explore Air!! It's wireless, easy to use and I can't wait to do my first project with it.

After the hunt, the bloggers all returned to the project room where we each made our own tote using the new Cricut Explore Air. I was impressed how easy it was for Afton to use. If a 9 year old can use it.... well it means that all of us adults will love using it too!

Using hot pink sparkle vinyl she made a cute tote bag. And look who was also at the event, remember my friend Jo?! I met her last year in the Southlake store. You might recognize Jo Pearson from Craft Wars.  It was so fun to see her again and introduce her to Afton.

All in all, the event was a success. Afton and I finished the evening with dinner at Pei Wei and talked about how lucky we were to win the Cricut and how cute her bag turned out.

If you are local, be sure to visit the new Michael's Frisco store. The Grand Opening is Sunday, April 12th at 5255 Eldorado Parkway at the Parkway Towne Center Shopping Center. (And don't forget to check out all those new burlap & chalkboard crafts!)

Rustic "Days til Christmas" Sign

I don't have my Christmas decor up yet. I like to wait until after Thanksgiving. Then we put it up and enjoy it through New Years. So right now, I have a chance to get a head start on my Christmas crafting.

I am working with Michaels again to share my 'spin' on a Christmas craft. I took their "Christmas Decor" quiz and from looking at the photos, I am definitely a 'rustic' girl who likes a bit of 'glam' too. Which style do you identify most with?

Michaels is hosting a "Pinterest" party at all of their stores on Saturday, Nov 15th from 1-4pm. You can pop into your local store and try any of their Pinterest-Inspired Christmas Projects.

I loved the Count Down to Christmas plate idea. But wanted to make it more 'rustic'. So I shopped my Michaels and found some great supplies to make a Count Down to Christmas plate- with a rustic twist.

Want to make your own Rustic Count Down to Christmas?

Here's what you will need:
-Black Chalkboard paint
-Wood
-White Chalk Paint (Martha Stewart)
-Stencils (Martha Stewart)

1. Paint your wood with the black chalkboard paint. Let dry.

2. Use the stencils to write "Days Til Christmas". This took a few attempts. I used white chalk paint, so when I wasn't happy with the way it looked on my first try, I just used a wet sponge to wipe it away and start again.

3. Let the count down begin!

Pop on over to your local Michaels November 15th from 1-4pm  and have fun crafting!

Goodbye Halloween, Hello Christmas!

Halloween came and went-- so much fun and then it was done! Made me feel kind of sad when that it all passed so quickly.

My oldest dressed as a 'gypsy' - purely because she liked all the accessories that came with the costume. And my youngest was Strawberry Shortcake because the costume was 'not itchy'. :) I wore Afton's blue 'Katy Perry' wig from last year and my hubby turned his Sriracha Sauce shirt from Target into a costume by letting me make him a green 'cap/hat'. It was a fun night.

With Halloween 2014 in the books, the world has moved onto Christmas! To help get us all reayd, Michaels' is hosting another in-store Pinterest party.

You may remember how much fun I had at the last one. (See all the photos from the Michael's party here!) And this season's is looking even better! I love the materials they sent me for project inspiration. What's your holiday style? I think I gravitate towards Rustic.

I was also given a gift card by Michael's to go shopping!  I am planning on making a few of these gorgeous decorations, so stay tuned.

You can get in on the fun by going to your local Michael's store on November 15th from 1-4pm. There will be lots of crafty project ideas and supplies to get you ready for Christmas!
