Crafty How-To: "Tangled" Rapunzel Movie Party

My sweet princess celebrated her 5th birthday in style with a "Tangled" Rapunzel party. She is all about Disney princess movies, Rapunzel, and popcorn. So with the release of the dvd on Tuesday, the timing was just right for her to have a movie party at home.

Each guest was mailed a movie ticket, complete with perforated bar code at the bottom. I ordered the tickets (similar to the ones shown below) through a designer on etsy. She customized the information and I printed them at home. Then I used a tracing wheel, from my sewing kit, to make the little 'holes' at the bottom.

I decorated our front door with a "Wanted: Flynn Rider" sign and a really, really long Rapunzel braid. I made the braid out of yellow yarn. I actually had to have my hubby help me braid it because it literally took three hands to keep it from getting tangled. No pun intended :)

Afton was very specific about wanting a 'little doll' on the cake. So I used Bakerella's tower cake for inspiration and then 'made it my own' with more icing and flowers. My tutorial for the cake can be found here.

I made bunting with the 'official' sun medallion from the movie. My tutorial for making bunting can be found here. To make it "Rapunzel" bunting- just use purple card stock and use this stencil to make the medallions from yellow card stock. They were a bit tedious to cut out, but I only did 9.

The table was decorated with goody bags, Rapunzel crowns and Pascal party blowers.

A simpler and printable version of the medallion bunting can be found here.

The goody bags held 'stick-on' earrings, rings, and Rapunzel coloring sheets.

We set up our garage like a movie theater, but "Rapunzel-style" complete with purple chairs and lanterns.
The lanterns were purchased from Party City.

The girls snacked on popcorn and drank juices boxes while watching the movie. The chalk board wall was set-up so the girls could 'decorate the walls' like Rapunzel does in the movie.

We also had a princess bounce house set-up. So they alternated between sitting very still and jumping around like crazy! And since they were in the garage, I didn't worry about spills :)

It was a great party, fit for a Princess.

Happy Birthday Afton!

And what would a birthday party post be without... a few linky parties?!

Crafty How-To: Make a Tangled Rapunzel Tower Cake

So this was the big 5 weekend- Afton's Rapunzel Movie Party. I made lots of fun things for the party. This post focuses on just the dessert. I will show you the rest of the party details on Wednesday :)

Now one of the best parts of any party is the cake. For this party, she just had to have a 'little Rapunzel doll' and the tower. I scoured the web and found this idea.

Bakerella's cake found here
Then the wheels in my head started turning and this is what I ended up creating.

Here are the supplies I used:
-Pre-packaged cinnamon rolls
- butter cream icing (found here)
-foam block
-scrapbook paper
-food coloring
-sugar cone
-silk flowers
-cupcakes, plus one extra liner
-wooden skewer or dowel rod
-canned icing
-Rapunzel doll

The tower was made by stacking individually packaged cinnamon rolls on top of floral foam using a wooden skewer.

I alternated the direction of the rolls to give the tower more dimension.

I placed the last cinnamon roll in a cupcake liner, this helps to support the top of the tower. I actually ended up turning the liner upside down after I took this photo, I thought it looked better :)

A cupcake goes on the very top. I also decided to wrap the foam base in purple scrapbook paper.

The roof is a sugar cone covered in purple icing. I made my own buttercream icing to use on the tower because it hardens better than the canned kind. Attach the cone to the cupcake with lots of icing.

Once the tower was made, then I had a lot of fun decorating the tower with icing vines and tiny purple silk flowers too.

Then we baked yellow cupcakes for the girls to eat. (The tower IS edible, but we needed some cake!)

The best part was that Afton actually decorated each cupcake. We colored 'canned cream cheese' icing to make it purple.

Then she added purple/pink sprinkles and a silk flower to the top of each one. I found the purple and pink sprinkles in the party section at Wal-mart. They are from Wilton.

The girls were thrilled that they actually got to keep the flowers- I love 5 year olds!

I stacked my two glass cake stands on top of each other to create one tall tiered stand.

The cupcakes were nestled around the tower cake, with a special "5 candle" on Afton's cupcake.

Come back by on Wednesday to see the rest of the party fun!

Busy Around our House

Now that spring is here, things have suddenly become sooo busy!

Last weekend, I ran my first half marathon at the Dallas Rock N Roll. And being crafty girls, my friends and I even made matching tanks to run in :)

Then my sweet Afton turned 5 years old! Can you believe it?

So with a milestone like that-- a party and party crafts had to be planned! My princess chose "Rapunzel" as her party theme.

We've spent this week working on decor, favors, and activities for the big event. I am super excited about all the fun things we have planned. The big 5th party is this afternoon- I'll show you how everything turned out in a post next week.

Have a great weekend! Hope your busy schedule allows a little time for crafting too :)
