Behind the scenes of a Musical Parody: "Somebody to Love"

Whoever said cleaning with kids in the house is like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos was right! Sometimes keeping the house clean (while maintaining a loving home for you family) can be a challenge. Which is why, when I was approached this summer by Laughing Moms (aka Alisha and Eden) to be part of a video parody about clean carpet--- I immediately accepted!

Decorating a home to look beautiful is one thing, but keeping it clean is an entirely different challenge. And when life presents a challenge, the best way to handle it is with humor right?? Alisha and Eden are the talented ladies who founded Laughing Moms. They have amazing musical talents and they use those gifts to help others see the 'funny' in any given situation. The "Laughing Moms" as they are known, have created parodies about every 'crisis' moms face on a daily basis-- nap time, dieting, breastfeeding, friendships, husbands and more! This summer the Laughing Moms were commissioned by Mohawk Flooring to create a video that shares the anguish all moms go through trying to keep the floor clean. Alisha and Eden wrote a hilarious parody about 'clean floor woes' to the tune of Somebody to Love. Then they brought in a handful of local bloggers to star as the 'back-up' singers.

I have never been on-set for a musical parody before, but it is a lot of work! Being 'behind the scenes' that day, I learned there is so much much that goes into a creating a music video. I realized how much thought is put into each shot, each movement, each word. Scenes were shot several different ways so that when it came time for editing, the Laughing Moms would have lots of footage to choose from.

And when I saw the final product, I was so proud that I had been a part of it all! Here is the video parody "Somebody to Love".  (I am the one in the robe- lol. My parts all happen when the carpet is dirty, before the new SmartStrand carpet arrives.)

One of my favorite scenes is the mini-van. Hanging out the doors of a moving vehicle, in a choir robe, singing the praises of SmartStrand carpet... I am sure people thought we were crazy! We were trying hard not to laugh the entire time (or fall out of the van!)

I also really liked getting the old carpet dirty. The part where we all squirt liquids on the carpet... I was the mustard! Throwing food on the carpet kind of goes against everything I believe in. But knowing that the old stained carpet would be replaced with beautiful, new SmartStrand Carpet from Mohawk made it a bit more bearable :)

Not only did I have fun making the video, I made some new friends along the way. Eden and Alisha from Laughing Moms are so authentic and real. And Trista Perot from Mommy Updgrade is upbeat and kind, she made the whole amazing experience even better. It's so inspiring to work with moms who are pursuing their passions while staying home to raise their kids.
