Christmas Treat Bar for Teachers

My role as "Staff Appreciation" co-chair continues! This month we organized a Christmas Treat Bar for our middle school teachers. Parent volunteers brought in donations and we set it up with some festive decorations.

McCall Idaho, Summer Vacation

It's time for another travel post! For most of us, the weather is cold and dreary. So let's travel back in time to summer. Let's travel back to our August trip to McCall, Idaho. Come with me and see the sunshine and mountains.

This post is written like a travel diary, a day-to-day account of what we did during a full week in Idaho. There are lots of photos and details about trails, food, and more!

Long Weekend in Scottsdale, AZ

Besides crafting, my other favorite hobby is traveling! Happily, Jeff enjoys this hobby too :) Our most recent adventure was to Scottsdale, Arizona to celebrate Jeff's 42nd birthday. If you are looking for a fun long weekend, check out Scottsdale.

We had a blast- read on to see what we did, where we stayed, and what we ate!

Modern Diaper Cake

And I had to share this with you, because this has been on my 'craft bucket list' for-eeeeever. It's a diaper cake!

Fall Trail Mix Bar

Once a month, our middle school PTA hosts some kind of 'staff appreciation' event. Sometimes it's a full meal. Other times it's just a treat. For October, we decided to do a 'Trail Mix Bar'. I love snacky foods (who doesn't?!!) so this was a fun event to plan. This 'Trail Mix Bar' would be perfect for a birthday party, baby shower or any event where you want to present yummy munchies in a cute way.

Glamping Party & Using a Cricut to Make Feather Earrings

My baby turned nine years old! To celebrate, she simply wanted a sleepover at home. So I started planning! We decided on a 'glamourous camping theme' also know as 'glamping'. Part of this was due to the adorable tent we bought for camping... but have yet to use! So with our theme in mind and a handful of excited guests, it was party time!

PTA Ideas for Kicking Off the Year!

Probably the most busy time in the PTA world is the beginning of the school year. PTA volunteers are organizing school supplies, teacher luncheons, membership drives, meetings with administration, training for new board members, and more! In the interest of 'sharing is caring' -- I thought I would show what we did at our elementary school. Hopefully it will give you a few ideas you can use on your campus.

PTA Luncheon- Science Lab Theme

I am in full PTA mode over here! When I think about volunteering, I want to live the motto "I don't have to volunteer, I get to volunteer!". It's a privilege to have the time and resources to serve others.  And one of my favorite groups of people to serve are "teachers".

Teachers! What can I say? Have you been into a school lately?!! Teaching is not a job for the faint of heart! So let's take care of teachers. And the best way to do that ... is with food.

NBC's "Making It"- Jemma is my Mom!

Did you watch "Making It" on NBC? It was the first season of the 'craft challenge' reality show hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman.  The light-hearted show featured a group of 8 crafters who completed weekly craft challenges in the hopes of earning the status of "Master Crafter". And guess what? My mom was one of the 'crafters'!

The show "Making It" was such a whirlwind adventure for my mom (on her blog she goes by the name Jemma). Who would have thought my very own mom, who grew up on a little farm in Idaho, who is the Grammy to my girls, would end up on a prime-time NBC show?! As my mom says, you never know when something amazing thing is about to happen. And that couldn't be more true!

Back to School- Top Tips for Staying Organized

And boom! We are back in school. Gone are the lazy mornings in bed and evenings by the pool. We are up and "at em" early for volleyball and staying up late with homework, dance, and cheer. To keep it all together, we are doing our best to stay organized. For our family, a little prepping saves us time and our sanity. Want to know my favorite ways we "keep it all together"? I am sharing them all today- PLUS a fun $50 giveaway & free products for you!

DIY Crafts for Tweens : Dream Catchers

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is craft (of course). As the girls get older, I keep looking for new ideas to keep them interested and inspired. I have been fortunate that Craft Project Ideas sends me a box of goodies several times a year. The box contains a variety of beads, string, stickers, paint, pipe cleaners, sequins, and glitter. Then the fun part is up to us... what to make?!

How about Dream Catchers?

Summer Vacation on Lake LBJ in Texas

This past spring,  we bought a boat. We have been having so much fun with it on our 'home' lake, in  Grapevine. But this summer, we thought it would be great to take it on a road trip. So we searched VRBO and found a great cabin on Lake LBJ in Horseshoe Bay, TX. We had a blast "living the lake life" for a week. Today I am sharing where we stayed, what we did, where we ate, and some other helpful tips for those of you planning a lake trip this summer.

DIY Ribbon American Flag

Ya'll! I hit the crafting jack-pot! My oldest daughter is making all my "Pinterest dreams" come true.

You know all those things I have pinned (see here) but have never actually gotten around to making. Well I found someone to make them! My kids! Before you laugh, take a took at this DIY Ribbon American Flag my oldest made. It turned out so cute.

Dessert Kabobs for the Fourth of July

Let's talk about desserts on skewers. Because let's face it, food tastes better when its on a sitck! These are super fun because there is no baking required. And.... you can impress your kids. (Move over Martha Stewart!)

T-Shirt Hacks {4th of July Fashion}

Happy Summer friends! With the 4th of July just around the corner, the girls and I wanted to put together some cute 'diy fashion' to wear to the Lake. We love how they turned out and can't wait to share our new 't-shirt hacks' with you!

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon- Picnic Style

Is there anything more satisfying than serving others?  Telling people, "you are appreciated, we are thankful for you" and treating them to a meal gives you a warm, happy feeling.

Don't believe me? Try it!

Our PTA recently hosted an Appreciation Luncheon for our middle school staff. We treated them to lunch from Cowboy Chicken, along with salads and a dessert bar.

Art is a Trigger

Do you ever get an afternoon with 'nothing to do'? It seems like those days are few and far between. So when one pops up, we take advantage. Luckily, our 'free day' fell on the exact same day my "Happy Mail" arrived from Craft Projects Ideas.

Teacher Appreciation- 5 Days of Crafts/Gifts

I have always loved Teacher Appreciation Week. I love making 'punny' treats to send to school each day. I love to work with a theme. I love to show our teachers how much we love them!!! This year, Maisy is happy to take all my creations to her teacher. But Afton, who is now in middle school, feels a bit embarrassed by it all. Yet I am not giving up!

Here is what we made this year:

Crafts with a Pinterest Mom

Someone called me a "Pinterest Mom" the other day. And I said "thank you". I happen to think that's a compliment! Here is what I have seen and made from Pinterest lately.

For Easter the girls made these fun Peeps Cars with Maisy's dyslexia tutor. Aren't they cute!?!

Preparing for Easter

It has turned right from winter to spring around here. This week begins the final few days before Easter. We are preparing with egg decorating, treats and church.

50's Sock Hop - Middle School Cotillion

At my daughter's middle school, the 6th grade class gets to participate in Cotillion. It is a 4 week program hosted by the PTA that teaches etiquette, manners, and dance. I volunteered to co-chair the first dance, which is the 50's Sock Hop. Want to see how we threw a 50's theme party-- including decorations, fun party food and entertained 150 middle school kids on a Friday night? Well keep on reading!

Spread the Love, Not Germs! (Hand-Sanitizer Gift)

I don't know about you, but we are trying our best to keep away the flu! We have had so many friends get sick this season. It is just awful! Although we got our flu shots, we have been extra vigilant about washing hands. Which is why this was the 'sweet treat' my girls gave to their teachers last week.

Easter is Coming: The Eggmazing Egg Decorator

With Valentines over, we are ready for all the fun that Easter brings! I love the Easter season, it is filled with hope, purity and the promise of new life. There are so many cute crafts and activities that we can do as a family this time of year. One of our favorite traditions is dying Easter eggs. It's a chance for us all to sit around the table and just enjoy being together. Which is why I was so excited when my friend shared with me a new crafty way to decorate Easter eggs!

iPod Valentine Box & RV Valentine Box

It's that time of year again-- time for for Valentine's Boxes. My oldest has gone to middle school, so no more Valentine exchanges for her. But she still played along and got crafty while my second grader worked to make the 'perfect' box for her Valentine party. We looked around on Pinterest and then heated up the old glue gun and got started!

New Year's Eve Treats

New Year's Eve comes the same day each year, but for some reason I like to wait until the last minute to plan! Luckily our sweet friends invited us along to a party with them. I wanted to bring a fun NYE dessert, but I was short on time. So what did I do? I 'semi-homemade' a few things of course :)

Dollar Tree Christmas Gift

For the holidays, I love to give my girls teachers special treats. For Christmas I had lots of cute things pinned, but then I lucked out and found some 'ready made' ideas at the store!

Pinterest Inspired Holiday Food

We hosted our "Christmas with Friends" party again this year. It's our second year and this one was just as fun as the last. We ate all the yummy things, drank the drinks, played LCR, and laughed a lot.

(Jeff and I cracked ourselves up by dressing in coordinating plaid shirts. We didn't even plan it!)
