Easy Reindeer Classroom Door

Are there any other former teachers out there? I know who you are! The ones who love a good bulletin board, the ones who understand how excited kids get for classroom holiday decorations. My friend Regina (also a former teacher) and I thought our big 4th grade kiddos needed some Christmas cheer at school.  So we decorated their teacher's doors! Since we had to do 5 doors and there were only 2 of us... we wanted to do something that did not involve wrapping the entire door. I think this Reindeer Door Decor is both simple and fun!

DIY Ribbon American Flag

Ya'll! I hit the crafting jack-pot! My oldest daughter is making all my "Pinterest dreams" come true.

You know all those things I have pinned (see here) but have never actually gotten around to making. Well I found someone to make them! My kids! Before you laugh, take a took at this DIY Ribbon American Flag my oldest made. It turned out so cute.

Crafts with a Pinterest Mom

Someone called me a "Pinterest Mom" the other day. And I said "thank you". I happen to think that's a compliment! Here is what I have seen and made from Pinterest lately.

For Easter the girls made these fun Peeps Cars with Maisy's dyslexia tutor. Aren't they cute!?!

Pinterest Party

A few years back I went to a blogger convention in Dallas so I could meet other people who understood my love of Pinterest, social media and taking photos all the time. (You can read all about my experience by clicking here.) Since then, I have actually kept in touch with several bloggers that I met there. One of those women is the talented Amy Locurto of Living Locurto.

Amy recently held a Pinterest Party in Plano at Wholesome Grub for local bloggers and lovers of all things Pinterest. The idea behind the party was to bring Pinterest to life through hands-on demonstrations.

I brought my girls with me to join in on the fun. They loved the cupcake bouquet, making masks and getting a free Pinterest shirt :)

This photo just screams, "My mom is a blogger!" don't you think?! :)

Amy shared some cute 'summer food prep' ideas. The party also had fun treats to taste, activities for the kids, and of course lots of great opportunities for networking with other creative types.

Decorating Ideas for a Neutral Family Room

I love, love, love when I hear from a reader. A few weeks ago I got an email from a new reader that had found my blog via Pinterest. She has a beautiful new home, but felt her family room was 'missing something'. Even better she sent me several photos and then asked for some decorating advice. As I have told you many times, I am not an interior decorator. I have had a lot of fun working on my own home, but I have never taken on any design projects. But I was happy to share a few ideas with her that have worked in my home.

1. Curtains | 2. Rug  | 3. Accessories
1. Hang printed curtain panels on windows. (CLICK here to see how to hang curtains)

2. Add a rug. Break up the flooring and add contrast to the room with a geometric rung. (CLICK here to see my tips on choosing a rug)

3. Include some contrast on the mantle. Every room needs a bit of shine and some black. (CLICK here to see my mantle)
----------------
UPDATE: With those few tips, my Pinterest reader got right to work! She even was so sweet as to send me some 'in progress' photos. I love what she has done with the windows, rug and mantle. I think she is a decorator at heart. Sometimes you just need a little direction to get started!

Today we are celebrating with lots of chocolate, hugs and kisses. My husband bought these flower bulbs for all the girls in our house (including me) a few weeks ago. How to Make "Burlap Monogram Art"

I am so ecstatic about my partnership with Michaels and Hometalk for the upcoming Pinterest party. While I was at Michael's last week prepping for the upcoming event, I couldn't help but notice the beautiful burlap canvases and wood scrolls. The texture of the burlap and design of the scrolls seemed like a great mix. I bought a few supplies and came home to craft. I am a big fan of burlap and monograms, so I figured that somehow I could create something that would combine the two. The result was this fabulous Burlap Monogram Art.

Want to make one too? Here is what you will need:
-Artist's Loft Stretched Burlap Canvas
-Wooden Medallion
-Wooden Scroll
-Wooden Letters
-Paint and brushes
-Hot Glue
(All supplies were purchased at Michaels.)

To begin, I mixed pink and ivory paint.  Then I began painting the background medallion shape. Instead of painting it one solid color, I decided to let the colors fade together- it's ombre! To achieve a subtle ombre look, start with the darkest shade on top and gradually fade it to the lightest shade. I went from light pink to ivory by mixing the two colors and then applying with a sponge brush. Blend, blend, blend.

Next I painted the letters ivory and set them aside to dry. I painted the delicate wood scroll gold (because gold makes everything better right?!) Then I used a circle sponge brush to add gold polka dots to the burlap canvas.

Once all the paint had dried, I used a bit of hot glue to attach the letters to the scroll. And then I glued the scroll to the medallion. Finally, I hot glued it all onto the burlap canvas. These are my youngest daughter's initials :)

The finished project is the perfect decor for my girl's sweet blue and pink bedroom. I think this project would make a fabulous gift for a birthday party or even a baby shower. Just imagine the possibilities if you used different paint colors. Or you could even make this to give as wedding gift! I love personalized, handmade gifts don't you?

Remember to join me THIS SUNDAY at the Michaels Store in Southlake. I will be sharing this project in person and doing some 'live crafting'. You can make the "Burlap Monogram Art" project like I did or try something new.  "RSVP" for the party via my Facebook page here. The party starts at 1pm and the first 15 guests will receive a free crafty paintbrush!

This special "Pinner Event" is held at all Michaels stores, so even if you don't live near me, you can create a 'pin worthy' project at your store. You can find project inspiration by searching #MPinterestParty on Hometalk.com

*If we know each other in 'real life'- please come! I would love to see your friendly face at the party. If you read this blog and 'feel like you know me'- well I would just love to meet you!! Make plans to attend.

Will you be at your Michaels store on Sunday? More details about the "Pinner Event" (here).

Announcing a fun Crafting Party this Sunday!

Hi Friends! I am thrilled to be partnering with Michael's, Hometalk and Pinterest for a very special "Pinner Event". I have been invited to bring my crafty skills to the Michaels store in Southlake, TX THIS SUNDAY from 1-4pm.

Come into the Southlake, TX store on Feb. 16th between 1 and 4pm and we can craft together! Choose from tons of popular Pinterest projects, buy your supplies and meet us in the classroom to create your own "Pinworthy" project.

If you are not local, no worries. The Pinterest Event is taking place at all stores! Check this link for more information and to find a store near you. Select stores will be featuring a Hometalk Blogger like me! It will be a fun afternoon--let's finally make some of those projects we have all been pinning.

What can you expect to make when you come? Michaels is full of inspiring home decor project ideas-- the fun part is picking which one to try first. And since I will be there, we can work together to make your idea come to life. Be sure to check out my favorite Michaels coupons here to save on great craft supplies for the party.

Finally, follow Michaels on Hometalk for a chance to win a $100 gift card. Five winners will be announced after the party on the Hometalk Facebook page.

On my most recent trip to Michaels, I found this great burlap canvas and these wooden cut-outs. Come back to my blog later and I will show you what I made with them!

You might be inspired to give my craft a try when you come to the in-store party on Sunday :)
