Bake It: Rainbow Brownie Bites

My girl recently 'bridged' from Daisies to Brownies. After two years of earning Daisy petals, her troop was ready to move on up to Brownies.

They had a sweet ceremony at a nearby park. The act of 'bridging' in Girl Scouts is represented by a rainbow. So we had the girls walk across a white bridge, decorated with rainbow balloons. It was beautiful.

Memorial Weekend Fun { in Photos }

*Sponsored Post: I received product from Cutter and was compensated for my time. All my opinions are my own.

We kicked off summer with a little Memorial Day backyard party. Friends came over, we grilled out, the kiddos swam and then played in the yard. It was fun and easy.

Build It: Reclaimed Wood Ceiling

After our visit to "Old Texas Wood"- we came home with a trailer full of reclaimed wood. The goal: to put it on our patio ceiling. I found a great post about a guy who did something similar with pallet wood and of course Pinterest provided lots of visual inspiration.

Jeff began by setting out the wood on the garage floor according to the size of our actual patio ceiling (kind of like a puzzle). Some of the boards were shortened for aesthetics and because it made them easier to hang. He sanded them a bit to remove some of the rough spots. When putting the 'puzzle' together- we considered wood color and the details of the boards. Once it looked 'just right' he numbered them boards with chalk so he would know where each piece belonged.

Build It: Old Wood on Ceilings and Walls

Have you ever seen something on tv or the internet and wondered, where did they get that?!

Dying over the wood planks on the ceiling
Well, in our quest to decorate the backyard with a more "Industrial Chic" twist, we decided we needed old barn wood to hang on the 'ceiling' of our patio. At one time, I remembered seeing  projects on HGTV and Pinterest about using 'reclaimed' old wood for ceilings and walls. But where do you really find cool, old wood?? The answer, "Old Texas Wood" which turns out to be in Dallas :)  Jeff drove by it on his way home for work one day and called me immediately. "You are going to love this place" was all he would say.

8 Ideas for Small Bathrooms {Guest Post by Jay Harris}

8 Great Ways to Maximize Small Bathroom Space

Today I am welcoming guest writer, Jay Harris.  Jay is a Home Depot sales associate in the Chicago area, is a regular Home Depot blog contributor on bathroom decor projects and products. Jay's interests range from discussing bathroom fixtures to writing on bathroom storage and faucets.

You probably only need to spend a few minutes perusing Pinterest or the latest issue of your favorite home decorating magazine to cull big ideas for your bathroom.

Unfortunately, for many of us, those ideas are often greater than the space with which we have to work. In fact, while sizable bathrooms are now considered the norm in new construction, the washrooms in older homes only averaged about five by eight feet. But despite its diminutive dimensions, your bathroom can still pack a giant style punch.

Craft It: Pallet Art {Texas Sized}

Remember that great pallet my husband picked up off the side of the road for me? Well, we finally transformed it into a cool piece of art for our new 'Industrial Chic' backyard.

Jeff used a crow bar to take apart the pallet. I am happy he volunteered for that part. It took some prying and there were lots of crazy nails to deal with.  Then reassembled it by nailing most of the slats together. He made a 'N' shape base on the back. It made for secure slats on the front.
