Once a month, our middle school PTA hosts some kind of 'staff appreciation' event. Sometimes it's a full meal. Other times it's just a treat. For October, we decided to do a 'Trail Mix Bar'. I love snacky foods (who doesn't?!!) so this was a fun event to plan. This 'Trail Mix Bar' would be perfect for a birthday party, baby shower or any event where you want to present yummy munchies in a cute way.

DIY Pineapple Costume
You know how I feel about pineapples right? Remember when my daughter went to cheer camp last summer and we created an all kinds of 'pineapple' themed decor and treats for the girls on the team? Those were good times! Last weekend, my daughter's team competed at NCA in Dallas in the Youth Level 3 Division. It was a great competition and her team did really well. Prior to the competition, the gym arranged for the girls to have a few dress up days to get everyone pumped up about NCA. Usually, the All Star teams have specific practice uniforms for each day, but during NCA week- it was all about fun costumes/outfits. My favorite one was the "Twins Day". Afton and her friend wanted to dress alike... which gave me the perfect opportunity to craft something super cute! Enter the DIY Pineapple Costume!

It's getting closer to Halloween, which means it's time to do all those fun Fall things. We visited the pumpkins at the Dallas Arboretum, ran through the corn maze at Hall's Pumpkin Farm, picked out costumes, and today we baked!

7 Tips for Modern Halloween Decor
Last week one pumpkin "popped up" in my house, so it only seemed fitting to break out the rest of the Halloween decorations. Halloween decor can be a bit tricky. I never want my house to look like it belongs to Morticia Adams but I also don't want it to feel like an elementary school classroom in October. So in between gothic and cutesy-- I think I found my "Halloween style". Let's call it "Modern Halloween Decor".
So how do you 'get the "Modern Halloween" look? Here are my tips!

Pumpkin Carving with a Power Drill
Maisy picked out two little pumpkins on our recent Kindergarten field trip. And since she brought them home, she has been begging to carve them. Have you ever carved a little pumpkin? They are tough! Those 'shells' are thick and the surface area is tiny. Just getting your hand into one is a trick! So we decided to forgo the 'pumpkin carving' knives (after two broke) and break out the drill.

Simple Fall Decor + DIY Polka Dot Burlap Bunting
The first official day of Fall arrived and as much as I was trying to resist--- I broke down and bought some pumpkins. (Target!!) I have a few Halloween decorations in the attic that I will bring down once the calendar flips to October. But until then- this is me getting 'festive'.
The bunting is a DIY project that took about 10 minutes.

Goodbye Halloween, Hello Christmas!
Halloween came and went-- so much fun and then it was done! Made me feel kind of sad when that it all passed so quickly.
My oldest dressed as a 'gypsy' - purely because she liked all the accessories that came with the costume. And my youngest was Strawberry Shortcake because the costume was 'not itchy'. :) I wore Afton's blue 'Katy Perry' wig from last year and my hubby turned his Sriracha Sauce shirt from Target into a costume by letting me make him a green 'cap/hat'. It was a fun night.
With Halloween 2014 in the books, the world has moved onto Christmas! To help get us all reayd, Michaels' is hosting another in-store Pinterest party.

You may remember how much fun I had at the last one. (See all the photos from the Michael's party here!) And this season's is looking even better! I love the materials they sent me for project inspiration. What's your holiday style? I think I gravitate towards Rustic.
I was also
given a gift card by Michael's to go shopping! I am planning on making a few of
these gorgeous decorations, so stay tuned.
You can get in on the fun by
going to your local Michael's store on November 15th from 1-4pm. There
will be lots of crafty project ideas and supplies to get you ready for Christmas!

Pumpkin Door Decoration
Great artists work with oil paints, water colors, or pastels. My favorite medium... 'butcher paper'.
I spent a few hours at my daughter's school this week working in 'butcher paper'. I lucked out and found a few other women who support my passion for crafting in colored paper. They have helped me carry out all my crazy paper-based ideas :)
First up, the 3rd Grade Harvest Program called for some easy/free stage decor. Butcher paper to the rescue.
I made the pumpkins by creating 'pillows' from butcher paper. I folder the paper in half, cut the pumpkin shape, then painted on some polka dots. After the paint dried, I stapled the edges shut with the exception of the top. Then I stuffed the pumpkins with newspaper and all the paper from our recycling bin :) I closed the tops with a few more staples. A stem and a leafy vine finished the look. And those trees? Just crumpled brown butcher paper and staples. The sign was the same... paper, paint and hang!

What is your art 'medium' of choice? Hot glue? Fabric? Paint? If you get a chance, give butcher paper a try!

Pumpkin Painting with Toilet Paper Rolls
We had a little extra time this week, the girls were off school Monday for Columbus Day. Which gave us the perfect opportunity to try out a few of those 'fun Halloween crafts for kids' that I have been collecting on Pinterest.
This craft required only a few supplies and we had them all on hand. I pinned this craft via "MakeIt-LoveIt.com", click over to her site to see a more detailed tutorial. She has a great blog!
PUMPKIN PAINTING with TOILET PAPER ROLLS
-2 toilet paper rolls
-hot glue
-paper
-paint
I made the 'Pumpkin Stamp' by nesting one toilet paper roll inside the other. To get the inner roll to fit, I cut it length-wise and rolled it into a 'football shape'. I used a few drops of hot glue to secure it inside the outer toilet paper roll. Then we began stamping. A little green paint was added to make a little stem.
My littlest tried the stamp, but decided she would rather make her own pumpkins. She loves getting to paint with a brush. This is her version of '5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Fence'. We didn't have any canvases, so I just cut up a pizza box (from last night's dinner!) and let them paint on the white side. Bonus points for recycling!!
My third grader was happy to use the stamp. She made a pumpkin patch at night. Reminds me of "Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin".
I love the Halloween season. We'll be trying out a few more 'Pumpkin Crafts' before the month is over. Looking for ideas??--> come on over to my Pinterest board or follow @craftytexasgirl on Instagram.

Spooky Strawberries {A Yummy Craft Tutorial}
It's October, let the Halloween fun begin! These white chocolate covered strawberries are a little spooky and just the right amount of sweet. They are easy for kids and adults to make. Plus Spooky Strawberries are a great alternative to traditional Halloween candy.
Keep reading to see how to make your own "Boo-tastic Berries"!
Supplies Needed:
- 1 package (16 ounces) Driscoll's Strawberries
- 10 ounces white chocolate chips
- Candy eyes
- Fine-tipped black icing tube
Directions:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Rinse the strawberries and dry them well with a soft cloth or paper towel.
Melt chocolate by placing chocolate in a glass bowl and microwave for 20 seconds and stir with a fork. Repeat microwaving and stiring until chocolate is not-quite melted. Shorten microwave time to 5 seconds and stir. Repeat if necessary until completely melted.
Hold berries by stem or leaves and dip into melted chocolate. Swirl until coated. Leave about ¼ inch of red showing below leaves. Gently shake off excess chocolate. Place berry on prepared baking sheet to set. Repeat with remaining berries.
Once chocolate is set, pipe a small amount of frosting to the back of candy eyes and attach to berries.
Check out my other ideas for 'Healthy Halloween treats' by clicking here!
Special thanks to Driscoll's berries for the crafty recipe and for the supplies to make this treat. All photos and opinions are my own!

Make It: Chocolate Popcorn {a Halloween Treat}
Need a last minute treat for Halloween night? You probably have all these ingredients in your pantry.
I made this Chocolate Popcorn for some of the girls' friends and teachers. Literally, this is just about the easiest thing you will ever make! I got the inspiration from my friend Jennifer- she used to make something similar with white chocolate and cute Halloween sprinkles. I didn't have either, so I just worked with what I had :)
Want to make Chocolate Popcorn? You will need:
-Microwave popcorn
-Almond Bark
I popped a bag of popcorn and added three sqaures of melted chocolate. Then I mixed it together gently and spread it out on wax paper to 'dry'.
After about 30 minutes, I scooped it into these fun little bags. (It took 3 bags of microwave popcorn to fill 20 treat bags)
Then I printed these tags on thick craft paper. You can print your own free Happy Halloween tags over at Lil Luna. There are several color choices, I pulled the images over to a Word document and was able to fit 6 tags per page for easy printing.
The Chocolate Popcorn was a hit with our crowd-- and you can always 'make it your own' by adding candy corn, m&m's, sprinkles, or marshmallows etc.
Have a Happy Halloween!
