PTA Ideas for Kicking Off the Year!

Probably the most busy time in the PTA world is the beginning of the school year. PTA volunteers are organizing school supplies, teacher luncheons, membership drives, meetings with administration, training for new board members, and more! In the interest of 'sharing is caring' -- I thought I would show what we did at our elementary school. Hopefully it will give you a few ideas you can use on your campus.

PTA Luncheon- Science Lab Theme

I am in full PTA mode over here! When I think about volunteering, I want to live the motto "I don't have to volunteer, I get to volunteer!". It's a privilege to have the time and resources to serve others.  And one of my favorite groups of people to serve are "teachers".

Teachers! What can I say? Have you been into a school lately?!! Teaching is not a job for the faint of heart! So let's take care of teachers. And the best way to do that ... is with food.

Back to School- Top Tips for Staying Organized

And boom! We are back in school. Gone are the lazy mornings in bed and evenings by the pool. We are up and "at em" early for volleyball and staying up late with homework, dance, and cheer. To keep it all together, we are doing our best to stay organized. For our family, a little prepping saves us time and our sanity. Want to know my favorite ways we "keep it all together"? I am sharing them all today- PLUS a fun $50 giveaway & free products for you!

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon- Picnic Style

Is there anything more satisfying than serving others?  Telling people, "you are appreciated, we are thankful for you" and treating them to a meal gives you a warm, happy feeling.

Don't believe me? Try it!

Our PTA recently hosted an Appreciation Luncheon for our middle school staff. We treated them to lunch from Cowboy Chicken, along with salads and a dessert bar.

50's Sock Hop - Middle School Cotillion

At my daughter's middle school, the 6th grade class gets to participate in Cotillion. It is a 4 week program hosted by the PTA that teaches etiquette, manners, and dance. I volunteered to co-chair the first dance, which is the 50's Sock Hop. Want to see how we threw a 50's theme party-- including decorations, fun party food and entertained 150 middle school kids on a Friday night? Well keep on reading!

Back to School Feast

So I mentioned that there were a few things that I really wanted to do before my girls went back to school. (See this post for all 5 ideas). And I am excited to say that I got one of the big ones done! I love, love, love the idea of a "Back to School Feast"- so I decided to do it!

Top 5 Back to School Ideas

I have about a million projects, crafts, snacks etc. that I would love to do for my girls before school starts. But you know-- that's just not going to happen. So I have narrowed down all the pins, saved links, and dog-eared magazine pages to these "Top 5 Back to School Ideas". (And I am giving myself grace, if I only get to one... well that's ok!)

Happy First Day of School

Some people have already headed back to school, others aren't going back until after Labor Day. And here in Texas, we start on August 22nd. Which means we have less than a week. Eeek! Our summer has been so fun, busy, relaxing, crazy, and really hot. But I am ready to get back into our routine and start all of our fun fall activities. My girls will be in 1st and 5th grade this year. They can't wait to meet their new teachers and see who is in their class. I am excited for them! The First Day of School is a big deal. So I made a little "Happy First Day of School" gift to give to their teachers.

DIY Graduation Gift: College Hashtag Tote Bag

Where did May go??! The last few weeks of school have flown by. So many fun projects-- I got to help host a "Glow Dance Party" for our entire school, chaperoned a class over-night trip (which included some fun campy crafts!), watched my little perform in her ballet recital, and celebrated my birthday. Phew! I hope to get some of those fun projects over here on the blog soon. Today I am sharing a fun idea that can be used as DIY Graduation Gift or an end of year gift for your favorite teacher. It's pretty much my favorite "DIY Gift" because it is so easy to make!

The College Hashtag bag is a fun twist on a project I have shared here. All you need to make your hashtag bag is a canvas tote bag, craft paint, and iron-on letters.

Sweet Candy Themed Teacher Appreciation Week

Our "So Sweet to be Taught By You" Staff Appreciation was a hit with both the kids and teachers. Here is a look at what I planned for the week. None of this would have possible without lots and lots of helping hands. (I did not do any of this alone!) Teachers/staff are the people who love and care for our kids all day. They deserve to be thanked. I hope they felt extra appreciated this week!

Teacher Appreciation Door Ideas

Our school is celebrating Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week right now. And as the Hospitality Chair for our PTA, it's a big week for me! I have had so much fun planning for this event. I chose the theme "So Sweet to be Taught By You". (Think candy, sweets, treats and more!) To kick off the week, some of our crafty Homeroom Moms gathered after school on Friday to decorate their teacher's door. They all turned out so cute, I thought it would be fun to share them with you today.

I will do a seperate post with the full details of our
Candy Themed Teacher Appreciation Week soon :)
But until then, here is some sweet inspiration for decorating your teacher's door.

Salad Bar Teacher Luncheon

Our Hospitality Committee has been hard at work! Last week we hosted a luncheon for the teachers at our school. I decided to go with the "Hello Sunshine" theme since our staff makes every day at school sunny :) And because every teacher loves a good salad, we set up a yummy salad bar too!

I found my inspiration for the Salad Bar idea at Sara Robbins.com. Her salad bar is a lot more fancy than ours, but the results are the same. A yummy DIY salad. I like this idea for school luncheons, showers, or a family dinner. You can vary the ingredients based on your guests. Vegetarians, meat eaters-- there is something for everyone!

Red Ribbon Week: School Decorations

It takes such a community of people, all working together, to make a school great. I am proud to say that our school has a group like that. People who volunteer and give of their time, selflessly, to make things better for our kiddos. This week, our district is celebrating Red Ribbon Week to raise awareness and educate students about drugs. And to kick-off the week, volunteers at our school decorated the entire campus to go along with the theme "Life is Sweet, Drug Free".

"Snickers & Joy" Teacher Treat Idea

At the beginning of the school year, I think everyone needs a little extra TLC. Kids, parents, teachers-- we are all feeling the stress of early mornings, busy afternoons, and late evenings. I have noticed my kids have needed more snuggles this past week and half. Which made me think, that our teachers (who are with our kids all day) might need a little extra sweetness too. So I made goodie bags for each staff member!

I saw a similar treat idea on Pinterest and it inspired me to make my own version. (Click here to see the original idea via the fabulous Lil' Luna.) I used her phrase "Hope your school year is full of snickers and joy!" and added it to these cute blank ziploc bag labels.  The labels (designed by Tatertots and Jello) are a blank download (click here)- so you could add whatever phrase you want.
Or you can use the ones I made- that have the wording on them! Just print, cut and add to baggies stuffed with Almond Joy and Snickers. I used leopard washi tape to affix the labels to the bags. (You could print the labels on actual 'Avery Labels' and then they would already be sticky!)

I hope that we all have a year full of snickers and joy. Love and laughter make adjusting to these long days so much better! (Photo via Instagram @craftytexasgirl - come find me on IG!)

Hope you area having a great week!

Emoji Photo Booth for the Yahoo Boohoo Breakfast (+ Free Printables)

My sweet girls both started school on Monday. I am officially 'home alone'. I am not quite sure what I will do after I clean house, workout, and walk the dog. Who knows?! But I was about to cry my eyes out on the first day of school.

Thankfully, I was hosting the annual PTA Yahoo Boohoo Breakfast for all the parents, right after drop-off. And nothing makes you forget your 'troubles' like serving others. There were lots of new families and so many of my 'old' favorites.  I am so happy to be serving as Hospitality Chair again and I have a really awesome co-chair and committee that has already made my job so fun!

For the breakfast, we used the decorations from the "Teacher Back to School Luncheon" (see here) and added in lots of tissue boxes/mini tissue packs (for the bohoo) and party blowers (for the yahoo). We also served light munchies. The food included coffee, juice, water, strawberries, mini bananas, mini muffins, and donuts.

I should have taken this photo before everyone ate-- just imagine that all the platters are full of food :)

I advertised the event with these signs. They were posted around school and on our facebook page.

To help people mingle (and because I love to take party pics!) I made these emoji signs.
                                                               -------------------------------
                                                                  ---------------------------------
-----------------------------------

They were great conversation starters. I walked around the breakfast and asked people to pick an emoji sign that matched their current mood. Either 'yahoo' or 'boohoo'. (I am a big fan of emojis. I know that I should use 'real words' in my texts but I like to use pictures.)

Getting together with others is the best way to start their school year! (People need people!)

If you would like to use the Emoji signs at your school,
please feel free to download & print using the link below!

Teacher Luncheon + Free Printable

I hosted the annual "Back to School" Teacher Luncheon on Friday. The luncheon is put on each year by the PTA Hospitality Committee. It is a fun way to treat the teachers to a special lunch. The teachers are working so hard to get everything just right for our kiddos- they deserve a yummy lunch!

I had a lot of help this year. I am so thankful, because many hands make for a light load! These ladies and kiddos know how to get things done! Decor- check, food- check!

The theme of luncheon was "The Future is Bright" - so I made these printables for each table. You are free to download a copy and use it for your school too!

Download by clicking here.

The color scheme was black, white and yellow. We used school supplies, butcher paper, fabric, apples, and flowers to decorate. Lunch came from Olive Garden. And let me just say-- they were wonderful to work with. I highly recommend their catering.

The event was a hit with the teachers. I think everyone is ready for the big day! Back to school here we come!

Free Monogram Binder Covers

School starts in one week! We are busy running around this week getting all those 'last minute' details taken care of. All those little things that make for a great start to the year :) A few new outfits, new shoes, and school supplies. My girls both had 'one inch white binders' on their school supply lists.
And as much as I love things that are 'simply white'- we felt like these binders needed to be jazzed up a bit.
Image via @Chicfetti - click here to download your own!

A quick Pinterest search led us to my new favorite site, "Chicfetti Monograms". And friends, let me just say, this site is like the holy grail of monograms. My girls and I scrolled through pages and pages of the cutest monogram prints. Florals, pineapples, polka dots, watermelons, bows! They are all free downloads that can be used for whatever you can dream up. Frame them and give as personalized birthday, baby shower, wedding, or teacher gifts.

Or do what we did, and slide them into the front of a plain white binder.

After downloading the prints, we simply highlighted the letters and replaced them with the letters we chose. Free personalization?! I'll take it.  These were so easy to make, we will probably change them out every few months.

I did sign up for their newsletter in order to download all the prints for free. Which to me- is no big deal. Free downloads and a free newsletter with Chicfetti ideas and printables?  Perfect- because I love monograms!! Plus their website is full of fun things to make with their free monograms.

Have your kids gone back to school yet? Did you personalize any of their school supplies?
