It seems there is a fine line between having enough decor to keep things interesting and over-decorating to the point of clutter. January is the best time to reevaluate what items are adding dimension to your style and what things are simply taking up space.
With your home freshly 'undecorated' after the holidays, consider these three ideas for decorating without adding clutter.
1. Simplify your color palette: Neutrals will never go out of style. They are the canvas for fun pops of color. Pick furniture and large pieces in simple neutral color palettes. Then add interest with small colorful accessories like pillows, art, or small accent pieces.
2. Layer in patterns: Stripes, geometric designs and florals bring in design layers without adding clutter. Introduce them to the room in textiles, rugs, curtains or pillows.
3. Take something away: After you have brought in everything you love... edit, edit, edit. Truly the best way to decorate without clutter is to actually remove it. Save the pieces you have edited in a box in a closet. Rotate them out when the seasons change or you need a fresh look in your home.
