"Resolutions for Today" {Free Printable}

With 2014 here, everyone is in the mood to get organized. So after the closets are cleaned and the new calendar is filled out, take some time to make a few resolutions. Not the 'lose 10 pounds' type of resolution. I am talking about something more personal-- a "Resolution for Today".

A "Resolution for Today" is a personal goal for your soul. It is something you want to improve about your self- deep down.  It can be resolution to be a kinder friend, a sweeter mother, or a more thoughtful wife. You could work on being more positive, speaking more kind words, or taking better care of yourself.  It is a small goal for each day that will feed your spirit and help you become a 'better version' of you!

By writing it down, it helps you be a bit more accountable. And these don't have to be 'huge promises'. Instead start small.

-If you are wanting to 'be a better friend', then try making a resolution for like 'call a friend and ask about her day.'
-A sweeter mother? Try 'spend 10 minutes snuggling with the kids on the couch'.
-If you want take better care of yourself, how about 'going on walk for 30 minutes' or 'spending 20 minutes reading a book or devotional'.

Break it down to a small goal. You can have multiple resolutions each day or just one. You can switch them out everyday or work on the same one for several days in a row. These resolutions are the kinds of things you have wanted to improve about yourself, but have sometimes gotten forgotten or lost in the shuffle of life. By writing them down, you are bringing those ideas back into focus.

For me, I need to work on how I talk to myself. I tend to get in the habit of 'beating myself up' for not reaching 'perfection' in all areas. And really, most things in life aren't worth that kind of stress. It ruins my mood and takes me away from the person I want to be. I really need to let some things go!

I made this printable as a FREE DOWNLOAD for you-- my way of saying 'let's do this together!'.
I designed it in multiple color options so you can choose the one  that suits you best. It is sized to fit the 8x10 frame we made together back in November. If you didn't make one then, all you have to do is print the document and place it in a 8x10 frame. Use a dry erase marker to write directly on the glass.

----------

Directions for printing: Drag and drop any of the documents below to your desktop, then double click on the image and print! They are sized 8x10. If you have any trouble, let me know and I will email it to you.

If you print one of my 'Resolutions for Today', I would love to hear from you. (Bloggers love comments!) Let me know below which one you like the best!

I hope it helps you find small ways to become a 'better version' of the great person you already are, because we are all 'a work in progress' :)

PS- I have a cute 8x10 printable for Valentines too- so go ahead and get your frame now!

"Let Your Light Shine"- 10 Truths from 2013

Happy New Year!

I hope you rang in 2014 with someone you loved. We had fun celebrating at home, reminiscing about the past and planning for the future. 2013 was interesting and challenging for me. I launched my clothing line, continued to grow my hair accessory line at Market and on Etsy.  I blogged a lot, I ran, and I tried to be the best mom, wife, sister, friend that I could.

Now that it is all said and done, I learned a lot. Not enough to say that I am going to do 2014 perfectly. Because, there is no such thing as perfect. But I do feel a tiny bit wiser-- and that counts for something. So here is what I am taking away from 2013.

1. Rest is important. No one likes crazy.
(Snuggling on the couch with my kids is important.)

2. Running is the best and cheapest therapy.
(I've never regretted going on a run. Things always looks better when I get home.)

3. Perfect doesn't exist.
(I am not fully convinced of this one yet. But if I keep saying it, then maybe it will I start to believe it!)

4. There is a difference between giving up and knowing when you have had enough.
(My clothing line is not happening. I simply could not sell large enough quantities to be able to manufacture my apparel line in the US and make any money. This was painful and sad for me.)

5. Living in the 'Land of Preschool' is pretty delightful. Four is a great age.
(I feel like I am in alternate universe when I step in the imaginary world that is preschool.)

6. Seeing your child experience the thrill of 'hard work paying off' is amazing. Seven is also a great age.
(That look on her face at gymnastics was priceless.)

7. Sometimes blogging is frustrating and I hate it.
(Imagine making something cool, writing a great post and then .... nothing happens. Welcome to blogging.)

8. My husband is the most patient and forgiving person I know.
(He knows crazy well and he still loves her.)

9. A puppy can cure you of being too much of a 'neat freak'.
(Chewed furniture, accidents on the rug. That cute furry face helps you get over it.)

10. God is in control.
(This is not new information. But we all need reminding.)

So I am going into 2014 with this attitude.

I even made a printable for you and me. Frame it, read it, do it.

To print: Drag and drop on your desktop, double-click to open and then print/frame.
I have both a 5x7 and 8x10 size for you. Love it? Pin it!

Goals, Resolutions- What To Do in 2013

The new year is in full swing and I have yet to make any resolutions. The past few years I have been full of goals for myself and goals for our home. Last January I even chose a word of the year. But this year, I couldn't really think of anything. I mean aren't they always the same? Be a good mother, wife, family member, friend. Exercise, eat healthy. Be nice to others.

Don't we all feel like this!?

Then at church on Sunday, I heard this quote and it caught my attention.

One Word

Can you define a year in 'one word'? Can you sum up 365 days with just a few letters strung together?

We are half way into January and I have set a few goals for myself and our home this year. But I think maybe choosing one word could help me achieve these goals. This word could serve as my own personal 'theme' for 2012. My word will be something that I could chant in my head when things get sticky. It will be something that will inspire me to do a little better, be a little better. And honestly, don't we all need that?!

So this year, I am challenging myself to "SEE".

I want to "SEE" the best in myself and others.

I want to "SEE" more smiles.

I want to "SEE" more beauty.

I want to "SEE" that it does not all have to be done in one day.

I want to "SEE" that perfection is not required.

I want to "SEE" more and worry less.

I want to "SEE" the big picture.

2012 is the year that I will "SEE".

Do you think could you choose just one word to define your year? Could one word help you achieve your goals and keep you on track? Can you find success this year by focusing on a few simple letters?
What would your word be?

What's Will 2012 Bring?

Are you a 'resolution' type person? I like to make a few goals when January rolls around. As soon I get the Christmas decorations taken down and the house cleaned up, it only seems fitting to take stock of things and refocus. Last year I set a few goals for myself, you can read the entire post here.

But basically this was the list for 2011:
 1. Savor the little moments with my girls- our 'chicken days' won't last forever.
2. Spend as much time fussing over my husband as I do picking out my clothes :)
3. Enjoy more time with our family- we are so lucky to have so much so close by.
4. Run a bit more.
5. Make a warm and loving home for my husband and children.
6. And finally, I need to decorate our master bedroom!

Surprisingly, I think I did pretty well. (I must have set easy goals!) I think my first three goals will always be on the top of my list. You can't go wrong with family.

And as for the last three, well I actually feel good about those too.

With the exception of the running and our master bedroom, these aren't really the types of goals I can ever just put a check by and then cross it off my list. For example, look at #5, some days I know I do a better job than others at 'creating a happy home'.  (I just never take photos of those days!) Aren't there times when it feels like keeping everyone happy is nearly impossible?! But maybe just having it on the list is good. Afterall it is a goal. I will never achieve perfection, but a girl's got to try her best right?!

So here is my list for 2012. I am stealing some from last year. But I threw in a few new ones too.

1. Have fun with my girls! Time continues to fly by- the older they get, the faster it goes.
2. Invest in my marriage. We're in this for the long haul:)
3. Make time for family.
4. Keep on running- challenge myself mentally and physically.
5. Eat healthier- I don't think 'baked chips' have much nutritional value...
6. Organize my pantry.
7. Keep blogging! I have tons of new projects in mind for Crafty Texas Girls.
8. Grow my hair accessory business-"Samantha Conner Designs"

What are you hoping to do this year? Is your list short and sweet or long and detailed?
And what about 2011, did you cross a few things off your list?

Top Projects of 2011

Now that the year is coming to end, I thought it would be fun to look back at 2011. This year, with your support, my blog really took off. I made a lot of fun crafts, did a ton of DIY, and met so many new crafty friends. So based on 'Google Stats' here are my top posts from the year.

Lil Pumpkin Party- When my Maisy turned two in October, we celebrated with a big party on at our local pumpkin patch. Check out the post for details on how to create your own invites, pumpkin cupcakes, and lots of fun party details.

Transforming Goodwill Furniture: Have you ever found a chair on the side of the road? I have! Read the post for tips and tricks for turning a "garage sale find" into a statement piece.

Coffee Bag Pillows: You never know where inspiration will hit- even in your local coffee shop. Transform a $5 coffee bag into a unique throw pillow.

Bathroom Redo: What started as a simple coat of paint turned into a major renovation. My husband loves his sledgehammer!

Painted Curtains: Love the bold look of stripes but can't find the right fabric at the right price? Make your own!

Playroom Re-do: Just because it is home to Barbies and baby dolls doesn't mean it can't be well-designed. Find out how to turn your play area into a room that you can be proud of.

Funky Camera Strap: Do you sew? Have you ever tried? Take a chance and create this super simple camera strap cover. Perfect for gifts or keep it for yourself :)

Creating a Unique Home: Learn to love your home! It might not be perfect, but nothing good ever is. Read my post to find out how I have transformed my house into a beautiful, comfy place that we are happy to call home.

Fit for a Princess: Upcycled Headband Holder: Do you live with royalty? I have one princess and one queen under my roof. So hair accessories are literally everywhere! Use an old oatmeal can to create a chic holder for all your 'pretty things'.

Rapunzel Party: Tangled is a favorite in my house, so when my girl turned 5 I knew that Rapunzel would be the theme of the party. We created a fun and easy party- complete with a tower cake, lots of free printables, and of course one long braid!

The Ruffled Lamp Shade: In an effort to bring more neutrals into my home, I had to think of a way to disguise my bright red lampshades. And thus the ruffled lamp shade was born. You can never have too many ruffles!

And don't forget all the fun holiday decor!
