If you are a mom, then you know, despite what anyone says-- you have a favorite child. You are not 'supposed' to have a favorite child. But you and I both know the truth.

Celebrate Every Mom
Happy Mother's Day! I spent the week (yes, I said 'week'!) celebrating the moms in my life. I did a 'girls night out' with my mom friends. Where we decided to declare that from now, it should be "Mother's Week" not just "Mother's Day". After all that's how we celebrate birthdays around here. Why not Mothers? Plus there are so many amazing mothers in my life. I need a whole week's time to celebrate them all!
My mom friends are my village. We are in the trenches of mommyhood- day in and day out. They are the faces of PTA, cheer, church, soccer, and all the things that make our children's lives go round. They are behind-the-scenes making life good for all our kids. Cheers to you ladies! This job wouldn't be as much fun without you.
I owe a lot to my mother-in-law, she raised the most wonderful man I could have prayed for. She taught him how to be a good man, devoted husband, and loving father. She is a loving Mimi who plans adventures and special dates with my girls. She also makes the best chocolate chip waffles they have ever tasted.
My stepmom is a bonus in our life. She is a delightful grandma who has patiently spent hours teaching my girls to quilt. She knows magical things like how to build fairy gardens. And she can always be counted on to have something special in her pantry.
My own mom is one in a million. God picked her just for me. My memories of her from when I was growing up are filled with hugs, patience, kindness--always kindness. She has a heart of gold. Now that I am a mom, our relationship has changed but stayed the same. She is the best listener and always seems to know how what to say. My girls adore their Grammy. She has special powers like growing a garden, making forts, and spontaneously playing softball at the park. Her house is full of treasures from the past that have turned into stories my girls will always remember. China dolls, vintage Raggedy Anne books, and Barbie dolls from the 60's. No one can replace my mom.
Today I am thankful for all the women in my life who care, nurture, and love children. Motherhood is the hardest job you will ever love.

In the past, I have made Mother's Day crafts and gifts. But this year, I went for the classic gift. Beautiful flowers delivered to each of my favorite 'mom's' front door. Thank you to ProFlowers for helping me Celebrate Every Mom!
Happy Mother's Day to you all!

DIY Gift Idea with an Owl Printable {Mother's Day/Teacher Appreciation}
The 'end of the school year' is starting to feel a bit like Christmas. Parties at school, parties for teams, recitals, performances, and of course gifts! It is a lot at one time, but to be honest, I am loving it this year. This week, I am working on Mother's Day gifts and some special treats to give as 'thank yous' for the women who lead our children's choir.
I was inspired by the idea of owls. Both girls have an owl as their 'class mascot' this year and I keep seeing owl 'home decor' everywhere I look. (Owls and foxes seem to the 'trendy' animals right now.) So when I found this really cute owl vase at Hobby Lobby, I decided to make a cute printable to go with it. This 'Owl Printable' will work for Mother's Day, Teacher Appreciation or 'End of Year' gifts for a coach, dance teacher, church volunteer etc.
I planted some rosemary in this owl vase for my stepmom and then printed the owl tag on card stock. I taped the card stock to a wooden skewer and stuck it in the dirt. It made for a cute early Mother's Day gift for my girls to give to their Grandma.
Then, I modified the tag and attached it to these long pendant necklaces for Maisy's choir teachers. The necklaces are from Charming Charlie's. I attached the necklaces to brown card stock and wrapped them in clear bags tied with jute twine.
Below are the printables for you-- just drag them to your desktop to print. Or click on the link below the images to download and print from your home. You can personalize either design on PicMonkey.com.
My crafting heart is happy, "makers gotta make" and this 'end of the school year' time period is providing me with lots of opportunities to be creative.

Sweet Ideas for Strawberries
Yesterday we celebrated Mother's Day with pedicures and lots of yummy food. My favorite was the simple strawberry shortcake the girls and I put together. We layered 'store bought' angel food cake with real whipped cream and strawberries. It was delicious!
And since strawberries are especially good right now, I decided to round up some other yummy strawberry recipes to share. Any dessert involving fruit is counted as 'healthy' right???
Cream Filled Strawberries
Strawberry Ice cream
Strawberry Shortcake
Patriotic Strawberries
Strawberry Honey Oatmeal Bars
Strawberry Trifle

Yogurt Covered Strawberries

Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Strawberry Smoothie
Strawberry Cake
Strawberry Cupcakes

Strawberry Cheesecake
What is your favorite way to enjoy strawberries?

Join me later as I feature your best projects from Cowgirl Up! Party goes live at 9pm every Monday night. Hope to see you here!

Simple DIY Silhouettes
If you have been following my blog for a while, you might remember this project :) But since we are in the final shopping days for Mom, I thought I would re-post it. The stores are be filled with everything from perfume to jewelry, but in my book, nothing tops a
handmade gift. Even if you have to make it yourself!

You might also like my Crafty Frame and Free Mother's Day Printable! See it here.

It's Overflowing
With that being said, one of the best handmade gifts a mother can recieve this
year has got to be a silhouette. Silhouettes are 'soooo in' right now. Surf
the web or browse Pinterest, and you will find these vintage images are getting
a modern make-over.
But without Photoshop or a degree in graphic design, these
projects might look a bit intimidating at first. And yes- I know people have been making
silhouettes forever! But when I googled the process and read how to do it the
‘old fashioned way’, I was a bit perplexed. How do you get a child to
hold-still that long?!
So I decided to tackle the project in the way that made the most
sense to me. No complicated editing. Just simple steps that will help you
create a timeless piece of art. There are probably more efficient ways. But
this worked for us.
Here is what
you will need:
-camera
-computer
-black card stock
-a pencil
I had my girls sit still for a minute (turn on the tv to help!) and took a photo of their profile. Having a window or light source behind them seemed to help illuminate their little faces.

I had my girls sit still for a minute (turn on the tv to help!) and took a photo of their profile. Having a window or light source behind them seemed to help illuminate their little faces.
Then I inserted the photos into a Word document and made
each picture big enough to fill an 8.5 x11 document. I printed out the enlarged
photos and then cut out each face.
And then I traced them on black card stock and cut those out.
To show them off, I decided to place them on a newspaper
covered background. So I used mod podge to adhere the newsprint to a piece of
cardboard. And then I used mod podge again to attach the silhouettes. I was happy with the finished framed project. But I felt something was missing...
So I added some hair bows :) Perfect.
Did you craft any special gifts this week? What are your plans for celebrating 'mom'?
Happy Mother's Day!
