Family Trip to Washington D.C.

For Thanksgiving, we decided to get out of town! We have been wanting to take our kids to Washington D.C. and this week off from school provided the perfect opportunity. If you are interested in making the trip to Washington D.C. (with or without kids), this post is for you. I am sharing what museums we visited, where we ate, what monuments are a 'must-see', and all the experiences you won't want to miss. Everyone - young and old- needs to visit Washington D.C. at least once.

McCall Idaho, Summer Vacation

Family Vacation in Oregon

Last summer we went to Oregon for our big family vacation. I realized that I never shared the trip here on the blog and now that summer is here-- I have a little more free time. So I am sitting down and sharing all the details about the trip with you! Vacations have become something that is really important to our family. I know that everyone has different opinions as to what things a family should invest in. For us, we like the vacation experience. Making memories, trying new things, and just having fun together is something that we want to give our girls. And luckily, my husband really likes to plan our travels! So last July, we headed up to Oregon.

Family Resort in Cancun: The Royalton

As you know, I like to share our family vacations here. I always enjoy hearing about other people travels and it seems like you all do too! If I was really smart, I would start a travel blog and get resorts to sponsor my trips or something. But... that sounds like a lot of work! So instead, you get my real honest photos and opinions of fun places we like to go! :)

For the girls' Christmas presents this year, we got them passports and a trip to Cancun! They are at an age where they don't need more stuff. We would rather give them experiences and make memories together than have lots of stuff under our tree :) Jeff worked with a travel agent to plan the entire thing.

Hiking in Vail, Colorado

My husband recently turned the big "4-0". Since he is figuratively going over the hill, he decided he literally wanted to go over one too! So he booked a long weekend in Vail, Colorado for the two of us. No kids. Just a weekend for us to celebrate his birthday and to do as much hiking as we could. Because there is nothing like reaching a milestone birthday that makes you want to push your physical limits just a bit :)

Family Road Trip to Austin

In March, we took our girls on a road trip to Austin, Texas. It's not a long drive from the DFW area, so it was the perfect get-away. Road trips in Texas are one of my favorite ways to spend a vacation. This state has so much to offer and people in Texas really are the nicest :) So we were excited to explore Austin and experience all it had to offer.

Visit San Francisco (with Kids)

This summer we took a trip to San Francisco. We were in the Northern California area for an entire week- our trip took us from San Fran to Sonoma to Sacramento and back to San Francisco. I am excited to finally share the photos, places, we stayed and food we ate :) Links to these places are included in the post- just in case you are planning to visit this area too! My husband spent almost a year planning this trip, and I have to say it was my favorite "Conner Family adventure" so far!

Cinnamon Shore, Port Aransas

We decided to take our girls on long weekend trip to Port Aransas, Texas. This little beach town is located on Mustang Island, located about 6.5 hours from DFW. Jeff and I had gone multiple times during college and once when Afton was a toddler. But we hadn't been back in a while. Then a friend told me about Cinnamon Shore and I knew I was ready to go again.

Cinnamon Shore is a resort style community. It reminds me of Destin, Florida. Lots of beautiful homes, organized activities for the kiddos, and good food. Their website is gorgeous and worth a look. I used my iphone to photograph our trip. But if you want to see the true beauty of Cinnamon Shore, be sure to find them online here.

My favorite things about Cinnamon Shore ... so many things! First the pools-

and of course the beach (easy to run on, great waves for surfing & swimming)

and lots of nice families and kiddos for the girls to play with,

who doesn't love umbrella and chair service on the beach?!

We rented a golf cart to use all week,

and truly enjoyed the yummy food at Lisabellas and the pool cafe.

There were sandcastle building lessons in the afternoons,

and live music and movies in the evening (check out the Airstream snack bar!).

And of course- the beach houses were just my style!

So Texas really does have it all!

Cinco de Mayo (Family Friendly)

Think Cinco de Mayo is just for college kids? Well it's not. You and your kids, and your friends, and your kids' friends, and even your husband can have fun celebrating!

We had some of our favorite family friends over for dinner on Saturday. And even though my husband thinks I am crazy, I wanted to have a 'theme' for our dinner :) :) Since it was May 2nd, I felt like we could go ahead and celebrate Cinco de Mayo. (And do a craft!!)

Our dinner menu was fajitas cooked on the Big Green Egg, quesedillas, taquitos, salad, chips, salsa and crock pot queso. I made a pitcher of lemonade for the kiddos and let them use my fancy glasses. We got a set of these beautiful margarita glasses as a wedding present and I never use them. I keep saving them for a 'real special' party. Well that waiting is over. I am using them. Now. And letting kids use them. (Yikes!)

My friend Kim brought the cutest cake -- she loves a good theme too :)

I went shopping at Hobby Lobby-- bought a few sombreros (they were only $2.99), a set of mustache photo props, and a package of colored tissue paper. Plus I got this cute fake cactus that I put in a terra cotta pot with some white rocks. (Because I kill real plants. Plastic plants are my 'go to'.)

I planned for the girls to make some tissue paper flowers. (The perfect kid-friendly Cinco de Mayo craft!) The girls loved having a project to work on together while they waited for dinner. They are old enough that they didn't really need much help. They whipped up a bunch of flowers in no-time.

Have you every made tissue paper flowers? They are pretty easy. I cut stacks of square tissue paper in multiple colors. Group together 5-10 sheets of paper. The bigger the paper, the bigger the flowers. I wanted our flower to be the perfect size for 'hair accessories' so our paper squares were about 7x7.
