Letter Board" trend? I have not bought one--- I just keep pinning them. (So that's pretty much the same thing-- right?) I think letter boards have replaced the chalk board. They are pleasing to the eye, require no fancy hand-lettering skills, and they are easy to use.

Home Renovation 2017 - Part 1
Happy First Day of May friends! What have we been up to? Well it all started on Easter Sunday. After the Easter bunny visited and we went to church, we came straight home and began moving all our furniture (fast & furious style) into the garage. Everything that touched the floors had to be moved as well as anything that we didn't want to get dusty. (Which is pretty much everything!) Why did we choose to spend our Easter Sunday doing this?? Because we are finally taking the plunge and doing another round of home renovation!

I Didn't Kill It (Caring for a Fiddle Leaf Fig)
I am such a bad gardener. Every plant in my house is fake. But a good fake (So good that my husband spent 6 months watering one of them before I noticed and told him to stop.) Oh I have seen thousands of pinterest photos- chic homes filled with living plants, but I knew better. I knew that a living plant wouldn't stand a chance under my care.
Until I met Lucy. I spotted her in the middle of my local Home Depot and for some reason, I decided to give her a shot. For $30 I figured the worse that could happen would be that I killed her. And since Home Depot has a 'plant guarantee'-- well, then all would be forgiven.

7 Tips for Modern Halloween Decor
Last week one pumpkin "popped up" in my house, so it only seemed fitting to break out the rest of the Halloween decorations. Halloween decor can be a bit tricky. I never want my house to look like it belongs to Morticia Adams but I also don't want it to feel like an elementary school classroom in October. So in between gothic and cutesy-- I think I found my "Halloween style". Let's call it "Modern Halloween Decor".
So how do you 'get the "Modern Halloween" look? Here are my tips!

DIY Crepe Paper Tassel Garland
Tassels have kind of taken over Pinterest and the craft world. I have at least 4 tassels necklaces (3 that I made myself!), one tassel bracelet, and several tassels that are literally hanging around the house on pillows and such. I thought that I had enough tassels in my life. But honestly... can you ever have enough tassels?? No. No. You cannot. So when I was prepping for my daughter's cheer camp decor (see this post) I decided to try making Crepe Paper Tassel Garland.

The Truth about Wall Stencils
Ever thought about stenciling a wall? Have you seen those beautiful images on Pinterest and thought- I could totally do that! Well, the truth is... you can. But be warned, stenciling a wall is not an easy task. I just 'survived' my second wall stencil experience. And now I am ready to spill all my "secrets" about this popular DIY trend.

Decorate without Adding Clutter + Pillow Giveaway
Although I am sad to see the holiday season come to an end, there is something wonderful about the emptiness of January. Removing decorations and taking down the lights, my home feels beautifully bare. I love the simplicity of the white winter light and the cleanliness of the new year.
It seems there is a fine line between having enough decor to keep things interesting and over-decorating to the point of clutter. January is the best time to reevaluate what items are adding dimension to your style and what things are simply taking up space.
With your home freshly 'undecorated' after the holidays, consider these three ideas for decorating without adding clutter.

Sitting Room Makeover (Transitional Style)
Our sitting area has gotten a make-over over the past month. (You can read about it here.) In my recent search for chairs, I found out that my home decor style is now considered "transitional". Not traditional, not modern. But somewhere in the middle. Which describes most things about me. So with that said, here is a peek at some of the decor changes I have made recently.

5 Things NOT to do When House Hunting

It's that time of the year. The time when you reflect about your home and your plans for the coming year. For some- that may mean you are thinking about home improvement projects (we just did that with lots of paint!) And for others, it means buying a new home. The market in our DFW area is so strong right now. I have several friends who are actively looking, keeping their eyes open and (their homes ready) in case they find that perfect property. If you are one of those people, I know how you feel! This is our third home and I have learned so much about the home buying process. So keep reading-- because today I am sharing my top five tips of What "Not to Do" when House Hunting.

Christmas Decorations: Transitional Style
Fa la la la la.... our tree is up! It is truely the most wonderful time of the year. I love seeing my friend's Christmas trees, looking at Christmas decorations on Pinterest, and swooning over holiday trimmings in my favorite catalogs. There is just something about a beautifully decorated tree in a cozy home. So today, I thought I would show you mine. I am calling it "Christmas with the Conners"-- 'transitional' style :)

Make It Yours
So I have a list of things that I am hoping to get done. And you know what they say about goals- you are more likely to complete them if you share them publicly. That way people will hold you accountable. I am hoping you will be my people! (Who knows, my list just might inspire you to make your own!)

Work in Progress and New Art
I am not one of 'those people' who moves right from Halloween to Christmas. (No offense if you are!) I just need a little breather in between holiday decor. So on the morning of November 1st, I pulled down all my Halloween decorations and put it in a box. It felt good to have a clean slate in my home again. And it inspired me to move a few things around. I love the feeling that comes from moving around things you already have. This is a 'work in progress' post, so bear with me :)

3 Ways to Update Your Bedroom for Fall
When the seasons change from summer to fall, I always get the itch to make my home feel a bit more cozy. In the family room, I added several pumpkins and a little burlap bunting. So my next project was to make our master bedroom feel a little more like fall.

Home Decor Update (Open Concept Floor Plan)
It is really, really hot here now. So each day, we are either in the pool or we are looking for places with cold air conditioning. Which for some reason has given me the 'decor bug' again. I think when you "stop and sit", you tend to see things you want to update :)
And it was on a 'stop and sit' kind of day that I realized how my once-beautiful natural fiber rug in the dining room had begun to disintegrate. I kept trimming and trimming the loose loops, but it seemed that I was loosing a battle with the rug. And if I kept at, eventually it would shrink from a 6x9 rug to a 3x5. So I began shopping around to find a replacement, an affordable replacement.
On top of that, I was on the hunt for a metallic end table for my family room. I wanted to open up the space on the side of the couch a bit more and add some height. The current end table was a hand-me-down and I was ready for a bit of change.
Which brings me back to the whole 'find cool air conditioning' place to hang out... shopping is the perfect activity for a hot, hot day. And while I was beating the heat, I found this beautfiul rug at World Market. And even better it was on sale! On top of that I found a pretty metallic round side table there too- also on sale!
Here is how it all turned out. Little changes make a big difference.
And the side table in the family room...
Since my floor plan is open concept, all the rooms flow together. Which means that when I update the decor in one room, I get to enjoy it from another room :) And it also means that the decor that is one room has got to 'work' with the decor in the next room. I think the metallic table is a nice touch to the other colors and textures in my home.

Grey Bordered Chunky Weave Jute Area Rug (6x9 size) on sale for $169
Eden Side Table- on sale for $49
Oh and I also went out to the Nebraska Furniture Mart to look around (and hide from the heat). Lots of good things out there. If you are close by, go check it out. If you are far away, I would preview it online first to see if they have what you are looking for. I will say, I was surprised that they had a lot of "Restoration Hardware" style furniture along with traditional, modern etc. Also their furniture prices seemed great, but the accessories seemed a little high priced to me. I didn't buy anything that day --but I saw lots of things that I really liked :)
Hope you are beating the heat and enjoying some 'stop and sit' time in your home!

DIY Floral Lampshade
A new lamp shade can change a room. My favorites range from textured neutrals to a graphic design with some contrast. I have several lamp shades stored in my craft room that I switch out depending on my "decor mood" :)
I was sent this kit from "I Like That Lamp"--a site dedicated to demonstrating how easy it is to create your own lighting. They have created all-inclusive lamp and lampshade kits that make it easy to make a lamp you love.
The kit includes everything you need to create a custom lamp shade-- that you love. All you need to provide is your favorite fabric and a paintbrush (to apply the included glue).

There are also tips and tutorials to help with ideas and inspiration on the "I Like That Lamp" website. (One of my favorites is the springy floral lampshade by "Place of My Taste".)
Using some of my favorite black and white floral fabric, I made this lamp shade for my girl's room. I added some gold glitter washi tape. (Gold glitter washi tape makes everything better.)

Completed! Our Bathroom Remodel is Done
For those of you that have been following me this summer, you have read a lot about our bathroom remodel. And...it's all done! So here are a million photos of our 'new' master bathroom and bedroom. At the bottom of the post I have listed sources as well as links to the posts where I show 'the before' pics :) I hope you find some inspiration in what we have done.
Now let's start the tour! First up, the bedroom. I spruced up the bedding with a new quilt and an assortment of textured pillows. We also hung a series of mirrors above the headboard.
Now let's walk into the bathroom through our 'old' sliding door (here).
And welcome to the new bathroom! We replaced the tub, the shower, all the tile, and the shower glass. We also put in a new chandelier and bathroom fixtures. The walls were painted as well.
The tile runs all the way into our closet.
Now that's it all said and done, let me say, it's much more fun to clean a pretty room. I appreciate your sweet comments on Instagram, Facebook and here during the remodel. I feel like we have been through quite a journey together, don't you?! :)
