Modern Easter Decorating Ideas

Spring has arrived and it's time to decorate for Easter. This time of year is when the weather is at its best. Bright blue skies, warm sunshine and an abundance of budding flowers. I do love Spring! The promise of a fresh start along with all the colorful blooms is inspiring.  Looking to give your Easter decorations a modern refresh? Here are four super-stylish approaches to creating a look that is both classic and modern.

Crafts with a Pinterest Mom

Someone called me a "Pinterest Mom" the other day. And I said "thank you". I happen to think that's a compliment! Here is what I have seen and made from Pinterest lately.

For Easter the girls made these fun Peeps Cars with Maisy's dyslexia tutor. Aren't they cute!?!

Preparing for Easter

It has turned right from winter to spring around here. This week begins the final few days before Easter. We are preparing with egg decorating, treats and church.

Easter is Coming: The Eggmazing Egg Decorator

With Valentines over, we are ready for all the fun that Easter brings! I love the Easter season, it is filled with hope, purity and the promise of new life. There are so many cute crafts and activities that we can do as a family this time of year. One of our favorite traditions is dying Easter eggs. It's a chance for us all to sit around the table and just enjoy being together. Which is why I was so excited when my friend shared with me a new crafty way to decorate Easter eggs!

Modern Easter Decor

I decorated for Easter today! My kids LOVE when I decorate for the holidays. I do it when they are at school and they get SO excited to come home and 'notice that something is different'. (I am guessing it's similar to the feeling I get when Target puts out new stuff. Pure joy!) This year I used a few of our usual Easter decorations and then added a few new things too. Come see the photos- I will take you on a 'mini house tour' that just might inspire you to decorate for Easter too.

Easter Basket Ideas for Girls & Boys (Reusable Items they will Actually Use!)

Every year I get a bit stuck when it comes to Easter baskets. They can be so adorable, but they can also can be a bit wasteful. So this year, I am trying to fill my baskets with items that are thoughtful and reusable. Who's with me?! Here are four ideas for themed "baskets" that can be used year round-- and are sure to make the Easter bunny proud :)

Our Easter 2015

How was your Easter? Ours was really good. We made a few of those crafts that I mentioned in 'this post' I wrote last week. The Easter tree came together. I like the "Charlie Brown" vibe this tree has going on :)

Afton made our family a new set of Resurrection Eggs, all by her self! How awesome is that?!  I gave her the directions and she did the rest. I think I am going to like having a 'crafting partner'.

We baked a quick batch of Resurrection Rolls before church on Sunday too. Of course I didn't take a photo. There was too much going on. Oh and that Easter garden idea I posted never got done. But that's ok. Maybe next year.

After church on Sunday, we had a lot of family over for lunch and an egg hunt. The rain held off and we all enjoyed being outside together.

I hope your week is off to a good start.

Simple Easter Decor

We do Easter in my house with Jesus and plastic eggs. I like to keep it simple :) I have a few little things that I like to put out for decor too. When we see them, it reminds us that we are in the Easter season, the season of Lent.

The eggs and bunny on our table are symbols of spring and new life. The glittery bunny is from HomeGoods. The speckled eggs were from Hobby Lobby and the little tree are a Dollar Spot find a few years ago. My mom bought me the 'egg table runner'. And the egg cups are from Hobby Lobby. (If you buy a little bit each year, you eventually end up with a nice little stash of holiday decor.) On my hutch is a sweet wreath my mom just made for me. She likes to craft too :)

I made the rustic twine Easter eggs a few year ago. Here is the link to that post.

And I had to add this photo-- because these little sticky window clings have brought SO much happiness to my 5 year old. She was so proud to help me decorate the house for Easter. Besides hanging all the eggs on the little table trees, she was in charge of the window decor. I love when something so simple (and cheap) can bring so much joy.

In the kitchen, have another sparkly bunny. A square wreath - also a past project that you can see here. And then I put some plastic eggs in a covered dish.

I feel like we have to be careful not to get too crazy with the Easter bunny. It's not his season. This is the time for Jesus. The Easter eggs symbolize the Resurrection of Jesus. So I like to think of the bunny as a symbol of spring. And spring reminds us of new life and light-- the light that Jesus brought into the world.

Our family has a few traditions we do every Easter Week. I do some kind of Easter decorating at our home.

We go to church on Maundy Thursday. And then make Resurrection Rolls together to eat on Easter Sunday.
Photo via Taste of Home- see her post for the recipe.
On Sunday, we get dressed up and go to church. We do Easter baskets and fill them the happy treats.
My family gathers together to share a meal and celebrate that He has indeed Risen.

This year, I also want to try this Easter garden, shared on 'We Are That Family'. See this post for details.

And my friend Kim V. inspired me to make an Easter Egg tree too.  I am hoping for something similar to this one shown by "Skip to My Lou". (Ours will be much smaller!)

To keep it all in perspective- here is a post about things I will not being doing this Easter :)

Does your family have any special Easter traditions?

12 Pinterest Easter Ideas... that I will NEVER do

Yep you read that right. Today I am sharing ideas that I have no intention of ever doing. Don't get me wrong, I like all of these ideas. It's just that I won't actually ever do them. Time, effort, resources...Whatever the reason, none of these things will be happening at my house this weekend.

Isn't that what Pinterest is all about? Looking at pretty pictures, pinning, and knowing that you will never get around to doing any of them? (Kinda seems silly, but I really do enjoy browsing Pinterest.)

Anyway, instead of pretending any of these amazing ideas are really going to happen in my house, I thought today I would rather be honest. Easter for me will be celebrating Jesus, a few dozen plastic eggs and some Cadbury Eggs. We will go to church and then eat lunch at my mom's house. It will be perfectly imperfect. It will be focused on family and faith. And the amazing grace that Jesus gives us all.

Since I pinned 262 photos to my Easter board on Pinterest, I felt I needed to do something with all those ideas. I won't be doing any of them, but I figured sharing them and admitting to you that I have no time and no desire to create any of these will count for something :)  So let's enjoy these pretty pictures and breathe a sigh of relief that we don't have to actually make any of them!

What are your plans for Easter Sunday? Is there anything you have decided NOT to do this year?

Craft It: Easter Decor for the Front Door

Inspired by my mantle, I decided to take my Easter decor out to the front door. I wanted to repeat the same theme that I used inside: burlap, white, light blue, and some chevron.

Crafty How To: "New Easy" Grass Easter Eggs

The past few years, we made our own "Grassy Eggs". We emptied out a dozen eggs (baked a bunch of cookies with the eggs!) and then filled the shells with soil, grass seed, and added some water. In a few weeks, the eggs would sprout up bright green grass.

Crafty How To: Easter Mantle with Chevron Wreath

Before blogging, I never changed out my mantle. Well maybe except for Christmas. Other than that I kept it the same because it was easier. I was afraid if I moved things around for a holiday like Easter then I wouldn't remember where everything was 'supposed to go' when the holiday was over. And then I would have try to decorate again and maybe it wouldn't look good.

But you know what, there really is no place that everything is 'supposed to go'. And it's just a mantle! So rearrange, switch things up, and try something new. There is so much beautiful holiday decor inspiration to be found on Pinterest. Take a chance, you might be surprised at what you can do with the items in your own home.

Craft It: Crafty Easter Eggs

Although I do love St.Patrick's Day, I am thinking I might just skip the decor part of that holiday and move right on in to Easter. With Easter being so early this year, it just makes more sense to me!

Happy Easter!

I hope you have a meaningful Easter weekend spent with family and friends.

We will be baking Resurrection rolls and re-telling the Easter story with our eggs. Sunday we will all gather at my mom's house after church for a big meal and our traditional egg hunt.
