Pinterest and the craft world. I have at least 4 tassels necklaces (3 that I made myself!), one tassel bracelet, and several tassels that are literally hanging around the house on pillows and such. I thought that I had enough tassels in my life. But honestly... can you ever have enough tassels?? No. No. You cannot. So when I was prepping for my daughter's cheer camp decor (see this post) I decided to try making Crepe Paper Tassel Garland.
Tassels have kind of taken over

Crafty Valentine's Party
When it comes to Valentine's Day, the crafting options are unlimited. Handmade cards, creative Valentine's boxes for school, cute 'love' decorations for the home, and adorable confections that are 'almost' too pretty to eat. There are so many fun things to make for Valentine's-- it's hard to fit it all in on February 14th! So this year, I decided to host a "Valentine's Crafty Party" for my girls. I invited over a few of their friends, stocked up on red paper hearts, yummy treats and then the fun began...

Grandpa Rocks (Retirement Party)
My Dad recently retired. He has worked hard his entire life, so I am thrilled he gets to relax and enjoy life on his own schedule now. To celebrate this career, we had a little family party at my house. And since I can't do a party without a theme... I decided to call this the "Grandpa Rocks" Retirement Party!

How To Get Your House "Party Ready"
We love to entertain. Every year we prepare to welcome family and friends into our home for Christmas. But before I open the doors and greet everyone, there is bit of prepping.
Want to know what I do before guests arrive? (Besides run around the house like a mad woman?!) Here are my tips for "Getting your House Ready for a Party".
1. The Quick Pick-Up: Clear off counters, get rid of the clutter. All toys, laundry and papers need to be put away. Wipe down the kitchen and bathrooms quickly with disinfecting wipes.
2. Make it Shine Bright: I am not a fan of 'over head lights'. Instead I like the glow of lamps, the Christmas tree, and a few candles. Warm lighting makes the house feel cozy.
3. Clean that Floor: Run the vacuum around the house. My Miele canister makes it easy to quickly do the floors, that Pure Air Filtration means my house will smell cleaner. And my family will actually breathe easier since allergens like dander and pollen will be removed from the air, thanks to the HEPA filter. The sealed system keeps all of dust and pet hair locked inside the vacuum bag. Clean floors and clean air-- from one vacuum-- that's a win.
4. Nibbles and Treats: I like to have some little treats out for guests to munch on. Roasted nuts in a silver bowl or flavored popcorn in a small glass bowl are perfect. Homemade treats are always a hit too. Choose items that don't need to be refrigerated and are easy to refill.
This mini-cake plate will be filled with fudge. The bowl will house candied almonds. |
Now you're ready to be the 'hostess with the mostess'! Who is coming to your house this Christmas?
Back in September I traveled to NYC as part of the Miele Pure Air Blog Campaign. Over the next few months I will be sharing my experiences with my Miele vacuum. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Helium Balloons: Going, going, gone?
We headed out to get a few balloons today, I wanted to take some photos of Maisy at the park-- I thought the balloons would be a fun prop. But when we got to the floral counter at Tom Thumb, we saw this sign. Is Helium really 'gone'?
Party planners and small children might be out of luck, according to the "Washington Post", the US helium supply is dwindling. You can read all the details here, but basically, helium is a non-renewable resource. The Washington Post reports, "Party supply stores are already feeling the pinch, as recent helium shortfalls have driven up the price of helium-filled balloons. But it’s not birthday parties we should worry about. A severe helium shortage, experts say, would cause problems for large swaths of the economy, from medical scanners to welding to the manufacturing of optical fibers and LCD screens."
The florist at Tom Thumb said that even Party City is sending their customers away empty handed and referring them to local grocery stores. But now even those stores are unable to fill the orders.
So, we settled on balloons filled with air and attached to a stick. They turned out to be super cute. But could it be possible that future generations of children won't know the joys of a balloon on a string? Who would have thought?!
Have a great weekend and if you happen to come across a helium balloon- enjoy it!

PS- Maisy's photo shoot is part of a new project I am working on-- "Samantha Conner Designs" is expanding to include a new line of girls clothing! Stay tuned--more details to come:)

Pretty Party: Fall Bridal Shower
My youngest sister Becka is getting married in a few months. And in celebration of our dear Becka and her fiance Josh, we decided to honor her with a fall themed shower--"Apple of My Eye: He Picked Her, She Picked Him".
This party was special not only because it was for Becka, but because of all the fun we had planning it. Thanks to Pinterest, my mom and sisters (yes even the bride!) were able to share their ideas with me. It was neat for all four of us to collaborate without even being in the same room, or even the same state for that matter!

Our inspiration for this party can be found at by clicking here.

Throwing a party as team is so much easier than doing it alone. All the baking, crafting, and decorating was divided among Amanda, my mom, and myself.
The shower was held at my mom's beautiful house. We decorated the table by "shopping her home". The table was filled with homemade finger foods, rustic burlap, clean white linens, fresh apples, sparkly crystal, fine china, and speckled with a few bright orange pumpkins.
My mom created these Corn Husk Poms from a tutorial found on Centsational Girl.
This wreath is actually my door decor from Valentine's Day. But the natural colors and sweet message made it the perfect accent for the shower.
Amanda made these yummy, adorable apple cupcakes. They are chocolate cupcakes topped with mini-donuts that have been cut in half. The entire top was iced and then rolled in red sprinkles.
In keeping with the theme, I dipped crunchy apples in gooey caramel and then sprinkled chocolate chips over the top. The tags for the apples (which served as party favors) were custom made for free over at The Wedding Chicks.

Don't you love 'toile pumpkin' my mom made? A bit of fabric and mod podge on a real pumpkin! |

The party was kept lively by these three girls. They will be part of the ceremony. Becka is actually having six flower girls total. Such a sweet aunt to include everyone on her big day!
Becka was given so many lovely gifts. Dishes, cook sets, utensils, stemware and more.
At the end of the shower, we had everyone place a red thumb print on this vintage tree printable I found here.
I mounted the tree printable on a canvas covered in newspaper and mod modge. It made the cutest 'guest book' and since Becka loves to decorate in black and white, she can hang it in their new home. It will be a sweet reminder of the friends and family who gathered to celebrate with her.
We love you Becka- and wish happiness and blessings upon you and Josh!

Crafty How-To: "Tangled" Rapunzel Movie Party
My sweet princess celebrated her 5th birthday in style with a "Tangled" Rapunzel party. She is all about Disney princess movies, Rapunzel, and popcorn. So with the release of the dvd on Tuesday, the timing was just right for her to have a movie party at home.
Each guest was mailed a movie ticket, complete with perforated bar code at the bottom. I ordered the tickets (similar to the ones shown below) through a designer on etsy. She customized the information and I printed them at home. Then I used a tracing wheel, from my sewing kit, to make the little 'holes' at the bottom.
I decorated our front door with a "Wanted: Flynn Rider" sign and a really, really long Rapunzel braid. I made the braid out of yellow yarn. I actually had to have my hubby help me braid it because it literally took three hands to keep it from getting tangled. No pun intended :)
Afton was very specific about wanting a 'little doll' on the cake. So I used Bakerella's tower cake for inspiration and then 'made it my own' with more icing and flowers. My tutorial for the cake can be found here.
I made bunting with the 'official' sun medallion from the movie. My tutorial for making bunting can be found here. To make it "Rapunzel" bunting- just use purple card stock and use this stencil to make the medallions from yellow card stock. They were a bit tedious to cut out, but I only did 9.

We set up our garage like a movie theater, but "Rapunzel-style" complete with purple chairs and lanterns.
The lanterns were purchased from Party City. |
The girls snacked on popcorn and drank juices boxes while watching the movie. The chalk board wall was set-up so the girls could 'decorate the walls' like Rapunzel does in the movie.
We also had a princess bounce house set-up. So they alternated between sitting very still and jumping around like crazy! And since they were in the garage, I didn't worry about spills :)
It was a great party, fit for a Princess.
Happy Birthday Afton!
And what would a birthday party post be without... a few linky parties?!
