Family Trip to Washington D.C.

For Thanksgiving, we decided to get out of town! We have been wanting to take our kids to Washington D.C. and this week off from school provided the perfect opportunity. If you are interested in making the trip to Washington D.C. (with or without kids), this post is for you. I am sharing what museums we visited, where we ate, what monuments are a 'must-see', and all the experiences you won't want to miss. Everyone - young and old- needs to visit Washington D.C. at least once.

McCall Idaho, Summer Vacation

It's time for another travel post! For most of us, the weather is cold and dreary. So let's travel back in time to summer. Let's travel back to our August trip to McCall, Idaho. Come with me and see the sunshine and mountains.

This post is written like a travel diary, a day-to-day account of what we did during a full week in Idaho. There are lots of photos and details about trails, food, and more!

Summer Vacation on Lake LBJ in Texas

This past spring,  we bought a boat. We have been having so much fun with it on our 'home' lake, in  Grapevine. But this summer, we thought it would be great to take it on a road trip. So we searched VRBO and found a great cabin on Lake LBJ in Horseshoe Bay, TX. We had a blast "living the lake life" for a week. Today I am sharing where we stayed, what we did, where we ate, and some other helpful tips for those of you planning a lake trip this summer.

Tips for Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Are you up for another travel post? I haven't been sharing many 'craft posts' this summer. It seems like traveling and playing with my kids has taken over my craft time ;) But I promise this post will bring you both a craft and some travel tips for Broken Bow, Oklahoma. So let's get to it!

Horseshoe Bay Resort - with Kids

We have been "on the go" a lot this summer. Due to the way the 4th of July fell on the calendar this year, Jeff ended up with a nice long weekend. So we decided to do a little get away with the girls to Horseshoe Bay.

7 Days in Nevis

Each year, my husband's company takes the top performers on a 'once in a lifetime' vacation to celebrate their accomplishments. And this year- Jeff's hard work earned us a trip to Nevis! I had never heard of Nevis prior to his win. But now... I will never forget it.

Family Vacation in Oregon

Last summer we went to Oregon for our big family vacation. I realized that I never shared the trip here on the blog and now that summer is here-- I have a little more free time. So I am sitting down and sharing all the details about the trip with you! Vacations have become something that is really important to our family. I know that everyone has different opinions as to what things a family should invest in. For us, we like the vacation experience. Making memories, trying new things, and just having fun together is something that we want to give our girls. And luckily, my husband really likes to plan our travels! So last July, we headed up to Oregon.

Family Resort in Cancun: The Royalton

As you know, I like to share our family vacations here. I always enjoy hearing about other people travels and it seems like you all do too! If I was really smart, I would start a travel blog and get resorts to sponsor my trips or something. But... that sounds like a lot of work! So instead, you get my real honest photos and opinions of fun places we like to go! :)

For the girls' Christmas presents this year, we got them passports and a trip to Cancun! They are at an age where they don't need more stuff. We would rather give them experiences and make memories together than have lots of stuff under our tree :) Jeff worked with a travel agent to plan the entire thing.

Why We Went Back to Cinnamon Shore!

The day that school let out, we packed up our car and drove back down to Cinnamon Shore. Why?? Because it is the best beach in Texas and only 6.5  hours from our house. The property is adorable and the activities are fun.

Family Road Trip to Austin

In March, we took our girls on a road trip to Austin, Texas. It's not a long drive from the DFW area, so it was the perfect get-away. Road trips in Texas are one of my favorite ways to spend a vacation. This state has so much to offer and people in Texas really are the nicest :) So we were excited to explore Austin and experience all it had to offer.

Visit San Francisco (with Kids)

This summer we took a trip to San Francisco. We were in the Northern California area for an entire week- our trip took us from San Fran to Sonoma to Sacramento and back to San Francisco. I am excited to finally share the photos, places, we stayed and food we ate :) Links to these places are included in the post- just in case you are planning to visit this area too! My husband spent almost a year planning this trip, and I have to say it was my favorite "Conner Family adventure" so far!

Summer's Not Over Yet! (Plus my favorite sunnies)

Some of you have already sent your babies back to school. But around here, we are still holding onto summer. Our school starts back on August 25th. So we are enjoying every last minute. Over the weekend, we spent a few days in Austin with my inlaws. They rented a super cool house on Lake Travis. The property is up for rent, if you are interested in staying there for a few days like we did, you can click here to see more info and professional photos of the property.

The house sleeps a ton of people and comes complete with pool, horses, a playground, a playhouse, a theater, and even a gym! Here are a few of my favorite photos from the weekend.

View from the kitchen
So many windows-- the Lake looked amazing from up here.

One of the balconies- we sat out here with coffee in the mornings

This is the playhouse! It is completely air-conditioned and has a working fridge/freezer.

And horses too!
The 'infinity pool' overlooking the Lake.

Jeff' sisters-- they both have two kiddos as well. Lots of cousins to play with!

My new niece, baby Marlowe!
The water level at Lake Travis has dropped, but the house has an 'elevator' and stairs so you can still get out to the Lake. We rented jet skis one day and spent a lot of time down here!
My SIL and niece!

One of our days in Austin was spent at the Redwine Natural Pool. My father-in-law is friends with the owner :) You may remember (click here) we swam in this pool last summer too- it is still just as awesome!

It was a great weekend with Mimi and Grandanny!

And just before I left for the trip, my new sunnies arrived! Which was good timing as you saw that we spent the entire weekend on the water :) These are from Firmoo, a great place for prescription and non-prescription reading glasses and sunglasses. This style is the #OMJ8002 or click here to see them at Firmoo.com. I chose the dark black rims paired with the dark non-prescription lenses. And I love them!

New sunnies and a few days of vacation--- just what a girl needs :) I hope summer never ends!

This post contains a review of Firmoo.com. I was sent sunglasses to review, but I was not compensated for my time, post or opinions!

Family Trip to Colorado

Right after the 4th of July we headed to Colorado for our version of the 'great American road trip'. We usually take the girls to the beach, but this summer we wanted to show them the mountains. Being from North Texas, they didn't have much experience with elevation :) I have to say, I did several things on this trip that scared me. I mean scared me so bad, my adrenaline was pumping! I can't remember the last time I have had that feeling. True, exciting fear. I think that's what happens as you grow up... things get scary! (Here are a handful of photos from our trip!)

We drove straight from our home near Dallas to Colorado Springs. We stayed at the Embassy Suites and had a whole list of things to do while we there.

We hiked along the Arkansas River and then went white water rafting. (This was one of the 'true fear' events!!)

We explored the Garden of the Gods and climbed rocks.

We even took a tour of the Cave of the Winds. (True fear again-- I am horribly claustrophobic and had to mentally force myself deep under ground. It was a mental feat!)

One of the most amazing things was our journey to the top of Pike's Peak via the cog train. I felt like we were on top of the world.

Next we drove to Breckenridge. Breck is so different from Colorado Springs. The mountains, the trees, the temperature. The town here was so appealing! I got up and ran one morning- it was beautiful and it felt so good to be cold! But the air is thin- I could feel the elevation difference in my lungs.

We took the gondola up the mountain to the Fun Park. We bought all day passes and literally stayed the whole time. There was the Alpine Slide (scared me!), a roller coaster, a maze, putt putt, rock climbing (scared again!), rock mining, a bounce house, and a trampoline.

The next day we got up and rented bikes. Afton did awesome on the mountain bike, we recently bought her one like this at home. But the hills got tough! Maisy rode on the 'tag along'- so much better than the baby seat she has been stuck in at home.

We ate a lot of good food and made a ton of priceless memories. I recommend this trip 100% to anyone who is looking for a physically active family vacation. I think there is something to be said for doing things that make you scared once in a while :)

Where we Stayed:
In Colorado Springs, we stayed at the Embassy Suites
In Breckenridge, we stayed at the Villages of Breckenridge.

Things to Do:
Rafting trip was through 'Raft Masters' in Canon City.
Alpine Slide and the Fun Park are in Breck.
Cave of the Winds for the cavern tour.
Cog Train to Pike's Peak
Arkansas River hike

Some Places to Eat:
The Keg in Manitou Springs
Rudy's near Garden of the Gods
Mr. Ed's Family Restaurant in Canon City
Sunbird Restaurant in Colorado Springs
Butterhorn Bakery & Cafe in Frisco
Mary's Mountain Cookies in Breckenridge
Michael's Italian in Breckenridge
La Franciase in Breckenridge
