Trend Spotting: Macarons take the Cake

Just like clothing and home decor, food also has trends. For a long time, cupcakes were the darling of parties. Baby showers, birthdays, graduations and even weddings were celebrated with cupcakes. But there is a 'new' dessert on the table. The Macaron!

 The Macaron isn't a 'new' dessert. But my friend Mindy Cone has re-invented this sweet French dessert and is sharing her creative ideas in her new book, "Gourmet French Macarons".



Mindy takes Macarons to a new level through whimsical shapes. In her book, she shows how to use a template to create everything from ducks to footballs. And the best part is, the templates for all these sweet shapes are included on a cd that comes with the book.



A few of my favorites from the book include the apple Macarons,



these cute football shaped Macarons,



and these funny little Halloween Macarons!



The recipes, templates, and all the 'insider' tips for creating the perfect French Macarons are inside the book.
