Trend Spotting: Industrial Chic

We've been working on our backyard. Trying to add a little more of our personality and decor style to it. Really, our backyard is like a second living room, so it only makes sense that we would treat it that way decor-wise. I had seen some really cool photos on Houzz of beautiful 'industrial chic' backyards.

I knew I couldn't replicate them exactly (ha!), but there were a few elements I wanted to bring to backyard. And after looking at all the photos together, I made a list of exactly what I liked about the spaces.

1. "Barn Wood"- see the dark beams, I like the contrast of old and new.

2. Turquoise Furniture- Definitely an 'unexpected' pop of color.

3.Southwestern Landscaping- Love the cactus :)

4. That Tin Wall- Again, the mix of old and new. The tin wall could be my 'new'.

So armed with some photos, Jeff and I sat down and made a 'wish' list. The list was made up without consideration for budget- it is was a 'true wish list' which meant it included everything we wanted to do if time, labor, and money weren't a consideration. As we began working, we know that will edit some of the ideas. But it's fun to make a 'dream' list just to stretch your mind and challenge your creativity.

Over the next few weeks, I will share with you our progress. Some of the projects you might even inspire you to add a little more 'decor' to your own backyard. And maybe some of you will have ideas for me. I can't wait to get started!

  5. I am forever rearranging equations to find the value of what I can physically vary to give the required end result (at least in theory).
