PB Inspired Crate for Boys

Do you ever see something in the PB catalog and think "I could totally make that!"?? I am the exact same way :) For instance, take this cute rustic art for a boy's room. It is basically letters on a board. Really cute letters on a really cute board.

And you know where we can get really cute letters right? From our Silhouette Cameo**! This rustic art would be a great gift for a birthday, or for a 'new big brother' or at baby shower. The letters can be applied to a crate like I did, or to a painted canvas, a burlap canvas, or any board of your choice. Size your letters to fit the surface you choose. Since I had most of the supplies on hand, my cost for this project was $10! Nice compared to the $69 PB version.

Want to make one too? Here is what you will need:
1. Silhouette Cameo
2. Adhesive Cardstock
3. Crate (I found mine at Joann's on sale for $10 and added some gold paint) or Canvas or Board etc
4. Mod Podge

**Don't have a Silhouette Cameo? Stencil on the letters by hand with paint and stencils. Or find adhesive letters in the scrapbook section of your favorite craft store.

Here is an overview of the project:
1. Cut letters using Silhouette Cameo
2. Apply Letters to Crate, Canvas, Board of your choice
3. Paint over letters with a light coat of flat finish Mod Podge

Now let's take a closer look at the project :)
1. I looked through my font library on my Silhouette software and chose "Britannica Bold" .

I used the adhesive backed cardstock from Silhouette in cream.

2. After the letters were cut by my Silhouette, I stuck them in place. The letters are adhesive, but they are not permanent on wood without being sealed to the crate using Mod Podge. This is good because it gives you a change to reposition as necessary.

3. Once you are happy with the look of your project, apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to seal the project. As you can see above, my letters were lifting up at the edges. They need the decoupage to keep them flat and permanently attached to the crate.

I am thrilled with the final product. It is cute and cost a lot less than the original PB version!
