Crafty How-To: DIY Hair Accessory Holder

Texas girls like big bows. SO with that said, we have accumulated a lot of bows over the past six years. Add in the fact that I have two daughters and the fact that I like to make hair accessories... well our 'bow collection' has grown quite large.

The girls' collection had grown so much that it was spread out between two different closets on three hair bow holders and a headband holder! In the mornings, I was running back and forth between their rooms to find just the 'right bow' to complete their outfits.

So as I embarked on the challenge of 'sprucing up their rooms' (I will share the details in another post soon)- I decided to find a better way to organize their bows and such.

Using an old frame that I had painted white, I decided to staple chicken wire to the back. And voila! A new hair accessory holder was born! :) You can find chicken wire sold on a roll at any home improvement store. We bought ours at Lowe's-- see here.

*You may remember that I have a similar frame in my craft room- so if you don't have 'hair bows' in your life. Not to worry- this project works perfectly as an inspiration board or artwork display too:)

Compared to our past hair accessory organizers, I like how big this one is-- it holds ALL of their bows, plus loose ribbons, and a ton of headbands. Having it organized by color helps simplify our mornings too.

The bows are mostly on alligator clips, so I can just slide them on and off the wire. We do have a few french clips and these are easy to snap on and off too. On the bottom, I looped their loose ribbons through and hooked on some headbands too.

 Ahhhhh! Organization feels good!

Don't worry-- our headband holder hasn't been totally abandoned :) The chevron fabric is too cute not to use. So it sits out on display on the bathroom counter with a few of Afton's 'most favorite' headbands.

$18 on Etsy- here
Stay tuned for an upcoming 'reveal' post-- I will share the updates I made to both girls rooms. Plus some ideas for coordinating rooms and a jack-n-jill bathroom.

Do you have a collection in your home that needs organizing?

  4. What a great idea! Love all the bows! This is probably a silly question, but did you get the chicken wire at lowes or a place like that?

  5. Hi Jessica! That is a great question! I updated the post with the link, here it is http://www.lowes.com/pd_92283-16418-832283_0__?productId=3160867&Ntt=chicken+wire&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dchicken%2Bwire&facetInfo=

We got our chicken wire at Lowes. But it is generally available at any home improvement store. It comes on a roll. The ends are a bit pokey, so be careful not to scratch yourself.
