Make It: The Beautiful Mess Notebook

Disclosure: I was sent products to review. I was compensated for my time. All opinions are my own.

I am serving as the 'craft lady' again at MOPS this year. My friend Katie and I are doing it together, and I am excited about the possibilities that come from planning a craft for 50 women. Our theme for the year is "A Beautiful Mess: Embrace Your Story". I think that is pretty fitting for motherhood don't you? This year we will all be sharing our 'beautiful messes'. MOPS groups are rallying women to be more honest, to feel more equipped, and to find our identity by journeying along side one another.
To kick off our year, we will be making "The Beautiful Mess Notebook" using Martha Stewart Decoupage at our first MOPS meeting.

The Beautiful Mess Notebook using Martha Stewart Decoupage . Better moms make a better world!
We have lots of old friends returning to MOPS and lots of new ones too. I think working on a project together is a great way to bond :) We are planning to use our notebooks as journals- they can be filled with notes of inspiration, bible verses, words of wisdom and also serve as a place to record thoughts and feelings. I like the idea of taking something ordinary and with a little mess, turning it into something beautiful.

Want to make "The Beautiful Mess Notebook" with us? Here is what you need:
-Composition Notebook
-Assorted Scrapbook paper or wrapping paper
-Scissors
-Paint Brush
-Martha Stewart Decoupage (available at Michaels)
-Martha Stewart Decoupage Paper Cut-outs - Butterflies (available at Michaels)
-Paint

Cut up your scrapbook paper and attach them to the cover of your journal. I cut mine up into squares to give it a 'quilt' feel. Use the decoupage to attach the paper to your notebook. Once the front dried, I added them to the back as well.

After the paper squares were in place, I used some gold craft paint to dress up the spine.

Then I painted the decoupage on the back of the butterflies and pressed them into place. I liked these new cut-outs from Martha Stewart, she has several different kinds (butterflies, leaves, ferns etc). They are sturdy and can be applied to anything from fabric to glass (the formula is durable, even dishwasher safe!) using the Martha Stewart Decoupage.

Finally, I applied a coat of decoupage over the entire front cover. Once it dried, I did the same with the back cover.

And that's it! I can't wait to share this with my MOPS friends.

What in your life is a "mess"? The laundry room? Your schedule? Dinner-time? A Friendship? If you look hard enough, you just might spot some beauty.
