Craft It: Crafty Easter Eggs

Although I do love St.Patrick's Day, I am thinking I might just skip the decor part of that holiday and move right on in to Easter. With Easter being so early this year, it just makes more sense to me!

I love these paper mache eggs I found at Hobby Lobby. I actually found two ways to jazz them up a bit. (The later version will be revealed in a tutorial right here next week.)

The simple-girl in me kind of wanted to keep them brown and call it a day. But my crafty side urged me to take them a step further.

So with some cute scrapbook paper, mod podge and a paint brush, I created these "Crafty Easter Eggs". Want to make your own? Here's what you will need:
-mod podge
-paint brush
-paper mache egg
-scrapbook paper (you could also use fabric or tissue paper)

1. To get started, I cut small pieces of scrapbook paper. For a more 'vintage' look, tear the paper instead of cutting it.

2. Use your paint brush to apply the mod podge to the egg. Stick a small piece of scrapbook paper on the mod podge. Then apply a layer of mod podge to the top of the paper. Smooth flat with your fingers.

3. Repeat this step over and over, until the egg is covered. I only used one print, but you could add interest by combining stripes and polka dots etc. I also think newspaper would look fantastic on an Easter egg :)

4. Allow you egg to dry. Display it on an egg stand, candle stick or even a small terra cotta pot. This would be a perfect craft for an Easter party (these eggs aren't breakable-- so they are great for little ones!). Or you can make them ahead of time and use them to decorate your Easter table.

I think it's time I start on my Easter mantle! These eggs might be just the inspiration I need to get started.

My daughter's Daisy troop, plus some friends, recently visited a nursing home. This was the craft that a group of 20 first graders completed with the residents. And I have to say, I was quite impressed with their 'mod podge skills'! :)

Are you decorating for St.Patrick's Day or Easter?
