Photography

I love a really good picture.

And my friend Erin- from Splendor Photography- knows just how to do that.

I especially love when she buys from Crafty Texas Girls! The pictures she captures are amazing.

Erin has a way of capturing a feeling. She makes her subjects feel at ease and then she simply works her magic.

Erin was kind of enough to share some of her secrets with us.

- "Top 3 Tips for Photographing Kiddos" from Erin of Splendor Photography-

1. Let the kids have fun and be themselves, this is when they are really able to express their true self. A lot of times we as parents want that "perfect" shot so we give them to many instructions like,"Suzy, look over here, smile Suzy, put that down and look at me." It can be a bit overwhelming to hear all of these instructions. It's like overload and they don't know what to do first. So let them run around or have them show you what they are interested in and let them talk about it and you will for sure get some genuine smiles and probably some great candid moments.

2. Keep it relaxed, and remember sometimes the best pictures are not the ones where your kids are looking straight into the camera. Being "in the moment" is just as important of a shot than the big smiles and grins for the camera.

3. Get down on their level. Eye to eye contact is not only comforting to your children, but also offers a great photographic moment. The expression that you are able to capture from this point of view will also be more natural.

one more thing...remember to be patient with them. They're little :)

Valentine Ideas

Confession: I still have my Christmas wreath on my front door.
Now to my defense, it is silver and 'could be' seen as just a pretty wintery wreath.

But I am thinking it may be time to let it go. So on to Valentine's Decor! Tip Junkie is featuring a whole boat-load of ideas. Here are some of my favorites.

I like these ideas, just a little bit of "love" for the inside of your home.

Yarn hearts, found here and here.

And while browsing those lovelies- I ended up over at Be Different- Act Normal. And I found all of these great ideas. Seriously, I got lost for about 45 minutes, just looking at all of her Valentine's ideas.

Think these would be 'show stoppers' at the class Valentine Party.

Normal suckers, with a funny twist.
Yumm- dark chocolate.

My girls love pancakes, these are a must for us.

And will someone please make this for me?!

Cute activity for the class Valentine party- a candy bracelet- complete with lots of ribbon.

And I think this is a very 'cool boy Valentine' - and those are rare.
I love browsing crafty decor blogs! Now it is decision time, what should I make?

Thinking about LOVE

I found these when I was at the Montgomery Street antique mall. Perfect for Valentine's decor.

So, I made these... to adorn all of those girly girls on February 14th. Click here to buy and see more.

Is it too early to start eating those conversation hearts?!

The "New Color" for 2011

Wondering what is in store for fashion and home decor this year??  Well, the people in the know at Pantone have picked the new "it color" for 2011.

Drum roll please.... the new color is Honeysuckle! Which to you and me- means pink :)

Pantone describes Honeysuckle as "A Color for All Seasons"

"Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it."

I think that's a pretty accurate description of pink:)

Here are some pairings that go well with Honeysuckle, courtesy of Elements of Style.

Last year Pantone chose "Turquoise" as the color of 2010. And I have about 4 pops of that color in my house.  Luckily they are all accent pillows- so when the time comes- it will be easy to change them out. Although I am quite happy with my turquoise at the moment- even if it "sooo 2010"- ha!

Most people are not going to paint their family room walls pink. (If you do- email me a pic!!!)

Found here.
But a bit of color could be added with flowers, accent pillows, or a few accessories.

Will Honeysuckle make it into your home this year? And does all the pink in my daughters' rooms count?!
