Christmas Mantle 2012

I love decorating for Christmas. Getting the boxes down from the attic and unpacking our holiday treasures from year to year just makes me happy. I like to reuse my decorations instead of buying new things each year. I think if you can find different ways to display them, it can make them feel 'new'. I decided to make this year's theme "Silver and Gold" with some red accents.

The mantle is the focal point of our home, so I started there. An old frame was made new again with some gold spray paint. Then I used red stain ribbon to hang a simple evergreen wreath in the middle.

Spray painted mason jars hold beautiful white hydrangeas from Flower Muse. I have had these flowers for almost 2 weeks and they are just now starting to wilt. I need to order more! I love the quality. White hydrangeas are so stunning.

I added my silver bottle brush trees (from the Dollar Store) next to the DIY Glitter Reindeer Art that I made using Tulip Shimmer Sheets- such an easy way to work with glitter.

A simple candlestick and nutcracker finish the collection.

And since I scored some great red chevron fabric, I decided to sew the girls new stockings this year. I used my Tulip Shimmer Sheets to personalize them with their first initial. See the full tutorial for creating your own stockings by clicking here.

Our mantle this year feels festive and fun.

I carried that theme over to a few other vignettes.  Lots of green, red, silver and gold touches throughout the house.

On the hall dressers, I displayed our advent calendar. I took down my 'coffee filter' wreath for the time-being and replaced it with this lush evergreen wreath.

The kitchen has touches of Christmas too. On our dining room table, I enclosed silver ornaments in a dome cake plate.

More fresh hydrangeas from Flower Muse are clustered together in gold painted mason jars.

And other small touches of Christmas can be seen in other unexpected places- a mini Christmas tree with a burlap wrapped trunk and more of my nutcracker collection nestled on a tea table.

Probably the only part of our Christmas decor that doesn't follow the them is the tree :) Instead it is all about the family. Ornaments are placed on it for sentimental value versus aesthetics. And for that reason, it fits in really well around here!

What is your theme for Christmas decor this year?
