Tacky Sweater Party and DIY Photo Booth

On Christmas Eve we had our family over for a Tacky Sweater Party {see more here}. Everyone showed up in their 'tackiest' Christmas gear. It was so much fun!

I used Evite for simple invitations. They had lots of tacky/ugly sweater invitations to choose from. The party was 'pot-luck', everyone brought something yummy- meatballs, chicken nuggets, a jello mold, puppy chow, cookies and fudge. The 'tacky' theme kept everything light and simple.

We found our 'tacky outfits' at a thrift store. I made Jeff's 'Naughty' vest by cutting up a woman's sweater and hot gluing it to a thrifted leather vest. I hand-cut the lettering on the back of the vest from the sleeves of the sweater. The Santa is made from white felt, yellow ric-rac and googly eyes.

I made these headbands for myself and my girls to wear. 'Tacky Headbands' are a must for a 'Tacky Sweater Party'!

Other guests had great luck finding 'ugly sweaters' at Walmart, Target, or even Etsy.

Santa even stopped by our party. Most of the kiddos were excited about our guest.... a few were not :)

Then it was time for the awards! My daughter Afton was the 'Head Judge" We handed out 8 'tacky' awards. These were handmade by hot-gluing a ribbon to a self-adhesive bow. I wrote 'tacky' on the ribbon with puff paint. (Afton wanted us to give out lots of awards so no one would get their feelings hurt!)

And the 'big awards' were these cute buttons from Target.

My favorite part of the night was the DIY Photo Booth. I hung a tablecloth on a wall in the kitchen using thumb tacks. Then I decorated it with a wreath and some wrapped packages (cereal boxes) that were also tacked to the wall. I moved my nailhead coffee bag bench {see how I made it here} under the tablecloth for seating. I found these cute Photo Booth Props at Target right before Christmas. They were only $5 and were super simple to assemble.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the DIY Photo Booth!

All in all, the party was a success. I think the theme was a hit and everyone had a lot of fun. I hope you and yours had a Merry Christmas too!
