Painted Brick Fireplace

I ran across this photo the other day and couldn't help but do a little 'before/after' collage. A few years ago, we had our entire home painted. After a bit of discussion, we decided to have the brick fireplace painted too. Honestly, it seemed risky at the time. But I think it is the best decision we made. Our fire place is now a focal point. The dark brown brick and the black mantle are a bit unusual- which is what makes them interesting.

These photos were taken just before I began my journey in home decor and blogging. Everyone needs a few good 'before' pictures. And for some reason, they are all during Christmas. I tend to take a lot of photos during Christmas :)

Please ignore my crazy bangs. Instead-notice the curtains-- when I finally found the 'right' ones, we hung them high! Add height to your room by getting those rods as close to the ceiling as possible.

In this same batch of photos I found glimpses of our kitchen when it had the 'veggie' wallpaper border. I tried to convince myself that I could live with it. But I just couldn't. It doesn't mean 'veggie' wallpaper is bad. I just didn't love it. So I picked a little off. And you know what happens when you do that...
Kitchen-With-Border
See the 'Vegetable' border along the top of the wall? It wasn't my style.  The wall color here was also yellow.
Our breakfast area (which we've always used as a sitting area) used to house a bright red microfiber couch, a mulit-colored striped rug and brown crepe silk swag curtains.  Oh and a lobster on the wall. It's funny to see how your style can change over the years. Now that same area has black/ivory wingback chairs, a sheep skin rug and burlap curtain panels.

To me, these photos just go to show the power of some paint. And if you don't like your house, you can change it. Sometimes taking that risk-- makes all the difference in the world.
