Horseshoe Bay Resort - with Kids

We have been "on the go" a lot this summer. Due to the way the 4th of July fell on the calendar this year, Jeff ended up with a nice long weekend. So we decided to do a little get away with the girls to Horseshoe Bay.

We visited Horseshoe Bay for Spring Break one year and really liked it. The drive is pretty easy and they always have great hotel/condo packages for families. So we booked three nights and headed to the lake.

The property is huge and sits along Lake LBJ. It is so natural and pretty. During our stay, I got early to run, there were lots of paved routes to take. I even saw deer eating grass around the homes and villas.

Our package included daily breakfast at the hotel restaurant, "The Lantana". It was a pretty tasty buffet with a great omelette bar. The hotel also offered daily activities- like "Squawk Talk". The resort is home to lots of birds, the girls enjoyed learning about them and talking to them. Other resort activities include nightly smores, crafts for the kids by the pool, tennis, group fitness classes and more.

At night, there were more planned activities. The Spazmatics played at the yacht club. My girls found out the joys of 80's music :)

There are several pools on property, plus a nice 'beach' area at the Yacht Club by the lake. Shuttles and golf carts run every few minutes, so it's easy to get around from spot to spot.

The Horseshoe Bay Marina rents boats, jet skis, kayaks, and paddle boards. Maisy and I took out a kayak while Jeff and Afton went out on a jet ski.

During our stay, we kept our dinners very 'kid friendly'. One night we went to Pizza Hut. The next night we ate on the water at The River City Grille.  And on our final night, we ordered room service-- pizza again!

The best part of the trip was July 4th. The day started with the cutest parade through the resort. People decorated their golf carts, antique cars, wagons and lawn mowers. They threw candy and trinkets to the spectators.

After our morning of patriotic fun, we drove about 20 minutes into Marble Falls to visit some friends from college. They were staying at their parents house and invited us to join them on their boat for the day.

The kids loved tubing, swimming, and playing in the lake.

This is where they fell in love with paddle boarding.

It was so good to catch up with our friends and watch our kids play together. Lake life is greatness!

That evening we returned to the resort and watched the fireworks from the Yacht Club. It was such a great way to celebrate the 4th. If you can't make it to Horseshoe Bay for a holiday, I totally recommend a long weekend there. Just a few nights away from home can be that "end of summer vacation" your family is looking for.
