Have you ever heard of Galentine's? If you aren't a fan of the show
"Parks and Recreation"- you probably have no idea what Galentine's even is. So here is the quick explanation-- Galentine's Day is held on February 13th and it is the day that you celebrate the love of your lady friends! And whether you are single, married, or 'its complicated'... Galentine's Day is for you!
I have always thought Valentine's Day was pretty much a 'girl holiday' anyway. Which is why Galentine's Day is so perfect-- it's chance to be girly and show your appreciation of those dear friends. Because the love we have for our friends is worth celebrating and it definitely deserves its own day! ;)
So now that you know about Galentine's Day, it's time to plan a little celebration. Below are my top 4 ideas for having the best Galentine's Day ever!
When to Celebrate: On the show "Parks and Rec" the characters celebrated on February 13th with a breakfast themed meal. But I think Galentine's can be celebrated any day before "Valentine's". Everyone is so busy with kids, families, and jobs. Don't feel pressured to throw your celebration on the 13th. Do it when works best for you and your friends. Dinner, happy hour, lunch.. whenever!
How to Decorate: If you are hosting your Galentine's at home or a restaurant, the rule is the same. Galentine's is meant to be fun and simple. Add a festive table cloth and some
pretty pink flowers. There is so much cute "Valentine decor" in stores right now.
Or make your own like this one from
"Walk in Love".
Dress up the table with foam hearts, colorful pom poms, "X" and "O" foam letters, jewels, sequined hearts-- whatever is cute and fun!
What to Do: Enjoy your Galentine's celebration with easy conversation, drinks and munchies.
My personal favorite treat to enjoy with my friends is chocolate.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries are the BEST.
And don't forget a fun drink!
If your group loves a little DIY, set out some craft items and make your own cards.
Or plan you Galentine's at restaurant with a nail or hair salon nearby. After you enjoy your eats and drinks- then go next door for mani/pedis!
What to Give: No need to spend a lot of money, it's the thought that counts. But we ALL love to give (and get) little gifts to our friends. Nail polish, mini-champagne bottles, chocolates, or handmade cards are all fun.
