Have you ever seen something on tv or the internet and wondered, where did they get that?!
Well, in our quest to decorate the backyard with a more
"Industrial Chic" twist, we decided we needed old barn wood to hang on the 'ceiling' of our patio. At one time, I remembered seeing projects on HGTV and Pinterest about using 'reclaimed' old wood for ceilings and walls. But where do you really find cool, old wood?? The answer,
"Old Texas Wood" which turns out to be in Dallas :) Jeff drove by it on his way home for work one day and called me immediately. "You are going to love this place" was all he would say.

So the next Friday, we headed out there together. It was basically like walking into a giant "Pinterest board"-- full of ideas on ways to use old wood in your home. The men behind "Old Texas Wood", Lance and Stephen, turned out to be super friendly. We were given a full tour, told the history of the old building, discovered how the business was founded, told what happened when HGTV filmed in the store, and even discovered why they loved the camera crew from PBS. I have a special place in my heart for entrepreneurs, so this was a treat!

The wood at "
Old Texas Wood" comes from old homes, buildings, barns etc that are torn down due to old age. Then the wood is salvaged and brought back to their store where they sell it to customers.

Their store and website was part of an episode of "Curb Appeal' with John Gidding. And "
Old Texas Wood" is also set to be featured on a PBS special.

It is amazing to see what people do with reclaimed lumber. Because the wood comes from so many places, the wood is unique. So the projects that can be completed with it are endless.

Oh my goodness, what an amazing place! Right off the top of my head, I would use some old wood for a backsplash in my kitchen, and to finish the walls and ceiling in my partially finished basement. Look forward to seeing how your project turns out!
